hi i am a newbie to plasma and i am considering either a ED set or the cheap HD set.

I am mostly intestted in viewing DVDs and I only have standard cable right now.

I am looking at the panny TH-42PWD7UY and it seems it can be had for under 2k.

I also see the Vizio @ costco for 2400, and they have a new one coming which is the p42hdE which supposed to be 5000:1 constrast ratio and also 60k half life. This set is a HD set, so its only gonna be 500 bucks more than the panny.

If i were to go w/ a Panny HD then I would have to drop anotehr 1000 or 1200 more...

I currently have a 5.1 surround set with a PS2 as dvd player. I am looking into expanding maybe to order digital cable or HDTV cable? What would be a better buy, the Panny or the Vizio??? Which is i checked my local cable provider and it only has like 5 channels, is disc better? what about over the air antenna, do i need to buy a new one?

I am also not keen on the cables as well like DVI or HDMI, plz explain if possible.

I was looking at the Panasonic and called up to order and was talked into a PIoneer PDP424mv. I am very happy with it. It has a lot more hookups than the Panasonic. I can not be more pleased.

JR1229 That's right! but you are doom to find out that PIONEER has early burn-in issues than PANASONIC never has since the beginning of plasma display...You should follow your gut feeling in the first place.

actually, it is the exact same screen as the Panasonic!!

The only Plasma co-manufacturer Panasonic sold their screen to were SONY and FUJITSU. Visio was never mentioned.
