Need help for selecting the right plasma Can't Post

Hi all,
I need help selecting the right plasma for my usage. I am novice in this field, and I feel lost between all these brands and specifications; specially the significant price difference.

I am intending to use it at home, for viewing DVD/TV, as well as connecting it to my pc and laptop, for playing games. The cable provider here (UAE) is not supporting High Defintion. The viewing distance is almost 10ft. My budget is 1500-1700 US $.

My confusion is regarding 3 points:
1. The resolution. (Is it really worth going for the 1024, bearing in mind games and pc use).
2. The contrast. (Some providers have max. contrast ratio as 1:3000, which may be little dark, despite brightness can reach 10,000). BTW, the salesman says it is the ideal contrast ratio, for lifetime of the device. Comparing the image with other displays, it is dark.
3. The Warranty. (some providers have 3 years, others 2 years, and others 1 year. Is it really worthy ?)

My comparison between 4 devices:

1. Hitachi 42PD8500TA: (1900$, 1 year warranty)

2. LG 42PC3RV: (1440$, 1 year warranty)

3. PHILIPS 42PF7320: (1520$, 3 years warranty)

4. TOSHIBA 42wp56: (1575$, 1 year warranty)

I copied their specifications below.

Thanks a lot for your help.

Re: [sheriffam] Need help for selecting the right plasma [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi,

If someone advises me if 1024 resolution is important for games & pc usage, on 42 plasma?

Also the Contrast of 3,000 is it dark?

Thanks

Re: [sheriffam] Need help for selecting the right plasma [In reply to] Can't Post

Stop confusing yourself with the specifications and go compare the sets by watching them. As for your list. Hitachi is the better unit. LG's have a nice picture but they have a higher failure rate. Philips NO WAY! Toshiba. OK I suppose, failure rate similar to LG. As for buying a service plan. Go ahead and gamble. I can promise you if any board in any of those models listed fails outside of the warranty you'll be spending 4 bills easy to have it replaced. And I won't get into the cost of the plasma panel if it fails out of the warranty. Sly
