Well, they're two different beasts...First off, the LCD projection will be both cheaper and larger...But for the cost of a 42" plasma, you can get a 50"+ LCD projection...
The upside to the LCD projection is true HDTV (on many models), the downside is that it's still a projection, so viewing angle is an issue...
What is your price range? I can tell you at around $2500 you'll be looking at a 42" Plasma EDTV (like the Panasonic TH-42PD25, which is a great TV) and a low 50s TV from one of the projection leaders (Sony or Panasonic)...
