Panasonic HDTV Connections Can't Post

I’m looking for some more advice, but this time regarding HDTV set up. I am going to buy either the Panasonic TH-42PX25U/P or the TH-42PHD6UY (Still debating getting the 50” model) and was wondering the best set up for HDTV considering that I have Dish Network? I have a clean slate and haven’t purchased a new HD receiver from the satellite company or the cables to hook the two up. With the money that’s going to be spent on the plasma, I really want to make sure I have the best connection possible. I’m thinking component hook ups from both the satellite box and my DVD, but wasn’t sure if there was a better way considering all of the inputs on the TV. On top of that, I’m not familiar with the HDMI input, so I wasn’t sure if this was an option or not. I was also planning on getting the Dish Network HD 811 Receiver, but wasn’t sure if another HD model would be more compatible? Any suggestions or help would be appreciated.

I personally prefer the component cables. The DVI and HDMI conections will give you a slightly better picture BUT they can be finickey. I've seen these connections not give a better picture on some TV.s. I've never seen a poor quality image using Component cables.

I have to agree with the input someone gave about Component cables vs. anything else. DVI (there are two types, so choose the "correct" one if you go this route) is true "digital to digital", so the pic "should" be great. However, on one TV, my component cables are easily as good. DVI also still requires you to add audio by separate cables. HDMI is also "digital-digital", and has the benefit of carrying the audio too, but most plasma's I've seen limit the screen sizes using either of these two inputs. For example, if you are receiving true, full screen HD signal, no problem. However, if you are receiving something other than full screen width signal (which happens a lot on local programming, some sports channels, etc.), the digital inputs won't let you use your TV's ability to fill the screen with picture. The black bars are annoying. There is also the issue of your TV having inputs that match your receiver, something I'm not fortunate to have currently.

Component cables seem to bridge the gap between all the old gear and the new gear (even the inexpensive progressive scan DVD player on the market), and although they have to convert digital-analog-digital, their pic quality is pretty impressive. They are "cumbersome" of course, with 3 thick video cables snaking between components (and you have to have the audio too, but can use fiber optic if you wish). None are cheap of course.

Wish I could help you with the receiver selection. Good luck.
