Phillips 42FD9932 Shuts Down Can't Post

UnsureMy Phillips 42FD9932 shuts down after abut 30 minutes. Turning the power off, then on will usually restart if for a time. Phillips no longer has a service center. Does anyone have any ideas on this? the power light will blink after it shuts down. Is there a code in there? Anyone know what it is?
Thanks!

I've just experienced the very same problem. My TV is a 7 year old Philips 28" normal TV. Did you ever find out what the problem was?

Hi,

Not sure if this will help but this sounds very similar to a TV I had some years ago. In my case it was the standby circuit that had gone faulty, when the TV was powered up and got warm, this would trigger the fault in the standby circuit and the TV would switch off. Some TV's have a light to indicate it is in standby mode. My fix was an inexpensive transistor replacement done by my local TV repair shop, nowadays it may be an IC (chip) change but again should be a very cheap repair.

I don't know where you are but I can recommend a good repair guy in Brackley Northants UK.

Anyway hope this might help, Good Luck

No joy as of yet. I think I have it narrowed down to the VsVa board. Unfortunatly I don't have access to an osilloscope to check on eof the chips. I have contacted a local electronics technical college to see if they are interesed in troubleshooting and repairing it. I was given the set and am reluctant to put $700.00 in a replacement board.

My similar problem surfaced after 2 years, to the month. and again 2 years later. I have experienced similar problems and the service center replaced the VSVA board 2 years ago and I await diagnosis. Is this a trait of Philips Plasma's, every 2 years to shut down?Mad

Your screen is burned out. Forget replacing a little board. Your repair cost would be in the thousands!

Re: [denonjapan] Phillips 42FD9932 Shuts Down [In reply to] Can't Post

I was a philips tech and they did close down all factory service centers, the 42FD9932 can shut down for two reasons 1. fan shutdown you can defeat the shutdown circuit and if it stays on you most likely have a bad fan (there are six across the top) .

if you can just hit the power button off & on to get the Tv back on its probably a bad fan.

2. PDP (plasma display panel) has a problem.

if you have to unplug the Tv to get it back on, its probably the PDP.

now Philips wants $12k for the panel because it includes the buffer & other control CBAs.

to repair my PDP I purchased a dropped 42FD9932 from ebay for $200 shipped and was able to swap the top center CBA which did fix the PDP. hope this helps!
