Photo editing on plasma TV

I currently do digital photo editing (Photoshop) on a Sony Trinitron monitor
@ (1024x768).
I’m looking to buy a 42’’plasma TV of sufficient resolution
to do the same job.
Can anyone advise me what would be a suitable resolution
and what are the best connections eg: DVI or HDMI?
Do you know any models that allow both the best HD set top box connection
and the best quality PC connection to be plugged in full time?
(I suspect an LCD will be above budget)
