Plasma Aspect Ratio Can't Post

Hello all. I just purchased a 50 inch Pioneer plasma. When I put in DVD's that are "widescreen format" I still get the black bars on top and bottom. Does anyone know why? I thought the whole point of getting a widescreen TV was so we can watch the DVD's without the bars on the whole screen? Anyone know why this is?

Thanks

Yea, you should be able to change the format on your DVD player or TV. Change it to 16:9 format and it should fill the entire screen.

Most dvd long movies are most likely the case, black bars is caused from recording to fit a long movie in an entire DVD disc. which BLUE RAY recording solved this issue......Personally, I wouldn't recommend changing the aspect ratio from anywhere, not the ZOOM function of the TV or the DVD player itself. It'll degrade the picture quality. Just pay attention to the movie! after all you got 50 inch screen!
