Plasma TV... how clear should the picture be? Can't Post

I have a new LG 42" Plasma. It is hooked up to a DVD and a cable box. The picture is pretty good... graphics like animation, lettering, cable menu, even the weather map when watching the news or weather channel is superb....... however when it comes to people for instance, it looses that crispness and is a tad blurry. Now mind you, I have cable but not HD cable yet... that will come soon. My question is what I explained about the picture, is that pretty normal if you don't have an HD cable box yet? should I expect not having a real clear crisp picture?

Please don't bash me or tell me I'm stupid, or to read this time forums 1000 posts to get my answer. I ask mainly because a couple restaurant/bars I go to have the same TV I do. Their pictures are so crisp and nice I can't believe how amazing they look. I'm not sure if it is because I don't have the HD via cable yet, its my TV or a hook up I have wrong.

You are using dvd ( 480p ) and regular cable ( 480i ) for a plasma that shows 720p, so the plasma has to upconvent both sources to 720p. That is not something a plasma does well.

You will see a big improve in the picture quality if you upgrade to HD cable or sat. The HD channels will look like you looking out a window. The regular channels will still look the same.

A BluRay HD player will also give you great picture quality with hd dvds.

The reason bars look so good is they use HD channels or you are far enough away from the set not to see the poor picture quality o f regular channels. Also the smaller the screen ( less than 42" ) less of the poor picture quality appears from regular programming.
