need a little more info. what kind of cables and where do you have them plugged in? RCA, S-video, component (video cables) plugged directly into the plasma with RCA audio cables (red and white) plugged into your receiver? are you using a digital audio cable??etc.

Re: [Guest] Questions about PANASONIC TH-42PD25 [In reply to] Can't Post

Ok, here goes.... I have an 4DTV receiver connected from from it's OUT to the Dish Network (301) receiver;s IN with a regular coax cable.... then from the DISH to the TV I have them connected with BOTH COax Cable & RCA cables... (NO S-Video)....

I believe that getting a S-Video will help a little, right?

As for the sound, there is a TO AUDIO AMP plugs on the back of the TV.

However, The TV Instruction says that the TO AUDIO AMP plug is to connect it to an Amplifier and states that External Speakers cannot be connectyed directly to TO AUDIO AMP terminals..... the thing is, I dont see any other OUT plug except for another type of connection called DIGITAL AUDIO OUT which requires a cable I dont have.... will that be it??

Also, It says somethjing I dont understand...:
"When ATSC channel is selected, the output from the DIGITAL AUDIO OUT jack will be Dolby Digital. When NTSC channel is selected, the output will be PCM"
What is ATSC?
What is PCM?

Thx again!!

I'm presuming this is what you have. A satelite dish plugged into a satlite dish receiver. coming out of the sat receiver you have the video signal (S-video is best) going into the TV. The audio comes out of the sat receiver (Red/White RCA cables) and connects into your AUDIO receiver. The audio receiver connects to your speakers via speaker wire

I'm presuming the home theater system has an audio receiver, centerchannel speaker, 4 satelite speakers and a sub. if so run all audio signals (sat receiver, dvd player, cd player etc.) into the audio receiver. there's no need to use the built in speakers in your tv so turn off the volume on the tv. now connect all the video signals ( sat, dvd vcr etc.) into the video imputs on the back of the tv.
fyi...the rca video cable sends all info, audio and video thru one cable. S-video separates the black-white and color signals into 2 distinct signals.

Ok, I solved the audio problem... it was a setting within the DVD Player that I had to set....

As for the Video signal, I got the signal to get better by buying 1 Monster Component Cable to go from the Dish Network receiver to the TV..... but it's still a little shady & has some blockiness on fast movement.... Just for starters here.... Are Plasma TVs made to be seen from distance?? or it doesnt matter if I'm sitting 2 feet from the screen??...

component is the way to go. you should be able to go into your TV menu and adjust your color, contrast etc. start there to eliminate your shady problem. plasma's are to be viewed from a distance. the rule of thumb is to take your screen size in feet...so a 60 inch TV divided by 12 inches = 5FT.... 5FT. X 3 =15, so you should put your couch approx. 15FT. from the TV. A 42 inch would be about 10.5FT away. Being further away is better than closer. To close will give you eye strain and the picture will apppear fuzzy. Is the pixelization you see only on sports, dvd movies, or everything. my guess is fast paced action stuff (football game)or first generation dvd movies. if it's everything, then the cables (Component) may be the problem. If your not getting the blockiness on everything then it may be an unfortunate characteristic of that particular tv. I don't have the expertise to tell you, however some of the early plasmas from 3-4 years ago had that problem.

Re: [Guest] Questions about PANASONIC TH-42PD25 [In reply to] Can't Post

Thanks for the answer...

Today, I decided to unhook everything and start all over putting the most I could indep. to the TV....
Here's the summary :

The 4DTV goes directly to the TV via RCA/S-Video.... since 4DTV is a first generation picture, it looks flawless...

The Home Theater goes via Component cable to the TV... as you said, on movies like Gladiator, Titanic, etc it looks awesome!!! On older generation movies like Meatballs, Karate Kid, etc... I see some blockiness but if I get 10 ft from the TV it looks ok.

Local TV comes in directly through a Coax. cable and looks normal

The Dish Network receiver is hooked along with a VHS via RCA-S-Video... VHS looks better than I expected, as for Dish, it def. looks better after installing Monster cables, but still is not crystal clear perfect.... The rest of my family say it looks awesome, so maybe it's me being too perfectionist.
As for type of programs that look blocky? Baseball games, I assume that football will also look a little blocky, and scenes with a lot of movement in some channels....

Unfortunately, the TV (at this moment) is on a room that I can't separate the sofa no farther than 6-7 ft. But I can live with that.... Maybe having a bigger screen makes the compression noise more noticeable... kinda like trying to print a photo in full page mode when it would only take 1/4th of the paper...

Also,The Dish Net quality is def. not eye straining after buying one of those Monster Power MultiPlugs....

Overall we're very happy with the purchase.... Thanks to all who replied to this.... :)

glad to hear you've had success. the best picture i get from any source is the ATO antenna pointed at my local HD towers. try hooking your antenna to your dish receiver via coax (Antenna in)and point your antenna correctly. go here to see where to point it http://www.antennaweb.org/aw/Welcome.aspx the channels will come up on your dish menu. good luck

I just bought this same plasma last week. I'm also a Dishnetwork customer and I've encountered the same video quality problems that you have. If you want to see how great the picture can be then just hook an antenna to the cable A or B input and do a channel scan. This model has a DTV tuner built into it and you'll be amazed at just how shitty Dishnetwork's video feed is. It's a shame that there isn't a very good solution out there for a decent picture when using satellite or digital cable.

Actually, component is not the best connector (though for some sources it may be)...Firewire, DVI-D, and HDMI all provide a better signal than component...

As for viewing depth, the '3 x width' rule is for older sets...For HDTV sources (and EDTV, like the Plasma he has) 1.5-3 x width is best...More than 3x and you're wasting resolution...

Actually, I do not understand the problem.....I have a PANASONIC TH42PD6UY HD commercial plasma that takes the S-video signal from my dish tuner and gives me near 480p pic quality.
