SONY PLASMA PFM-42V1 Black Bars Problem Can't Post

Hi guys,
I purchased my Sony Plasma PFM-42V1 display about 2 years ago and until now have had no problems.

But the other night i when i turned it on, 2 black bars appeared that run vertically from top to bottom in a perfect straight line about 2 inches thick (each of them). It occurs even when i watch a dvd, so i assume its definetely a display issue. It even runs through the text at the top of the plasma when i first turn it on.

My manufacturers warranty has expired but i purchased an extended 5 year manufacturers warranty.

I was wondering if anyone has heard of a similar problem and what it could be???

Many thanks
PD

I've got the same set that I got for free and it does the same thing, except the longer I have it on, they dissaper. But mine also will come on most of the time with just a blotchy screen.

change the aspect ratio to 4:3. if the lines stay in the same place then the front PDP panel is croaked.if its under warranty get it fixed, though I would guess its cheaper to give you a new tv than replace the plasma panel

Even though it's probably a bad panel, one thing to check just to verify is to pull the ribbon connectors at the bottom of the panel directly below your black line areas and reseat them. There have been instances of oxidation forming on those connectors and creating the same symptom.
