Re: [Tomek] Sony PFM42B1 [In reply to] Can't Post

I also have a sony PFM-42B1. One evening last week I turned the set on and nothing...Green power light on, red stand-by light flashing. So turned it off, waited a minute or so and turned it on again...well you know the rest of the story. Needless to say I was almost in a panic. I began to search the internet and found this site, whew! I called the Sony people in San Diego and explained my situation, in a very stern by respectful way. Here's what happened. I was given a repair order number. A local moving company was contacted and a shipping box/container for ME to use was delivered to my home. I took the container and TV to the UPS store and paid them $25 to to package it properly for me. I then contacted the moving company the the container was picked up yesterday, so now its on its way to San Diego for repair. I was told the set would be repaired N/C under extended warranty using the code "HIC". In summary as I understand things at this point, my Sony PFM-42B1 is going to be repaired no charge, and Sony is paying for all incurred shipping charges.

I'll keep everyone posted on this adventure.

You guys are my new best friends... I have PFM-42B1 that has been experiencing the "blinking light of death". I called the numbers posted earlier and made a quick tour of the world's call centers and ended up in Florida. Long story short - Sony is sending me a box and going to ship & fix the monitor at their expense.

Thanks again for your help! I will post more information as the rest of the story unfolds.

Unbelievable. This site is quite the find. Thanks to everyone who posted this information. I just talked to Sony and after about 5 minutes they were shipping me a box to ship my Plasma for repair... for free. Thanks to Jeff who I emailed this weekend and told me he sent and received his Plasma back with no speedbumps whatsoever... I can't wait to get mine back!

Thanks again!

Rob

Re: [rbriley] Sony PFM42B1 [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi all... I've got one of these as well but I'm in Australia.
I have the same problem (HIC on the plasma panel flat cables) Has anyone had any luck with Sony repairing or offering spares in Australia? I've been told by a service agent that the set is a write-off. Not the sort of thing I would expect from Sony, especially for a $10,000 four year old set! Any suggestions anyone?
Cheers,
Deeks

Sony had a problem in Europe with their plasma tv's where foam used during transporting from the factory ate into the x or y driver pcb'sand the only solution was to change the pdp panel. it may be a world wide problem for all I know.most of these were write offs as when out of warranty Sony didnt want to know about it. Cut your losses and dump it

Just to let everyone know, Sony will no longer be producing Plasma TV's and will instead focus on their LCP and LCD sets.

I have a PFM-42B1 that the color is "off". Specifically, everything is pinkish. The yellow colors are pinkish-red. Does anyone know what the issue might be, and where I can get it repaired? If not, I'll sell off the parts.

Re: [jdeverter] Sony PFM42B1 [In reply to] Can't Post

My PFM42B1 PDP (6 blinking lights) just went out on me as well. Called Sony regarding the HIC issue and said they are no longer repairing them for "free" or repairing any plasmas for that matter. They said they stopped doing this "a few months ago."

Has anyone had success recently getting theirs in for repair for free? Did i talk to someone that didn't want to help?

Thanks!!

My 42B1 had the HIC problem, and was repaired in late September with no issue. I have another device that needs the same repair, so if anyone can confirm this claim I'd appreciate it.
