poor picture on my vizio

i just got a 42" vizio plasma hd, the the picture on alot of the channels is a bit poor kind of grainy and not real sharp, is this just the way it is digital cable or is it my tv, the hd channels and dvd movies look good but i got the plasma to view all tv at a higher quality.
