i went and looked at the tv. the collor on the tv is messed up. the center glows white and the corners are a little brown. when things are white on the screen (lettering, or a shirt) they glow too. is this fixable or is the tv a pos?

As with most used projection tv's knowing how long , and where they used it goes a long way. being brown on the outside edge could mean the coolant and or the screens need cleaning . The best way to tell with this Tv is to remove the screen (pull the speaker grill off then find some scews tward the top, remove then then puss uo and the screen shound release) then get a chanel on that does not change color much. stare down each tube looking for clairity, then shut it off. Since you will now be blind grab a flash light, point this down each paying attention to any burns you may see in the CRT's, Magnovoxs are famous for ther cooling fluid becoming contaminated this is a easy fix if you take your time, try to look past the bad coolant ( if any ) and see the tubes

Try MCM www.mcminone.com the coolant part # 20-2041 buy at least two they also have a pump #22-2780 that makes a coolant change real easy. Now for how to do this if youre mechnicaly inclinde it appers to be real easy, first try tipping the set so the white expantion chambers are pointed up this will keep the old coolant from gettin all over the board below, second cover the curcuit board with towels to prevent the above problem. remove the expantion chamber and pump out the old crap. youll notice that the blue crt on some models is reversed, just tilt that sucker the other way.
once all the goo is out we usaly have to remove the lens and the top of the CRT to clean out all the Goo. then wipe out the inside with alchol and wet the seal with a touch of vasaline and reasemble the lenses. Do this one at a time so you dont go swapin parts from one crt to the other, Fill the CRT, reinstall the chamber and set the set back upright, check for leaks ( remember you havent taken the towels out yet or pluged this set in ) clean all and we do mean all spilled coolant off every thing, when this stuff warms up it becomes more fluid and will leak down destoying that $300.00 dollor board under it. Then as another good idea is to make sure your towles or whatever you got stuffed in there are nonconductive or wont short someting out ( this is why you dont use tin foil ) and the set has some room to breath, fire that bugger up and let it run till warm about 15 to 20 minuts all the while checking for leaks. if it passes that test reasemble the set and re converge the colors and it should look a lot better

My Magnavox is a 1991. Is it worth replacing the fluid? the TV still works great after I have made a few repairs.

thanks
