60" RCA w/ctc169 Chassis Convergence Can't Post

Hey all!
Hopefully someone can give me a little guidance on this. I recently picked up a 60" RCA rear projection TV on the cheap, dead. It had a coolant leak on the green tube and was causing the anode to arc. I repaired the coolant leak and the messed up anode lead so now the unit powers on, but the convergence is totally messed up now. I expected it to be a little off, but nothing like it is. Originally I was able to get the crosshair all lined up in the center of the screen from the user menu, but things were still out of alignment around the edges of the screen. So I was tweaking the other controls behind the speaker grille and I have made it worse. So I talked to a service center and they are telling me it can take up to 8 hours to set up the convergence and that the HV arcing has probably damaged the convergence chip.

What is everyone's thoughts on this?

Thanks!
James

Did ya pull the green crt out of the chassis when the coolant was changed? Post a photo of the board you were adjusting, but dont turn anymore adjustments. Gonna have to pull up the grid to see whats going on. Look for a switch on that board. Dave

Yes, the green tube was pulled from the frame when the coolant leak was fixed, it's the only way to get at it to repair it. The crt tube was separated from the lens assembly to clean and reseal it. I am at work right now, but I will shoot some pics and post them when I get home tonight.

Dont make any adjustments on the board, problem is probably in the crt assembly. If the coil got moved when you pulled it, easy fix. if you can get the grid up, check the blue and red. if these are still square, your IC's are probably fine. Just have to pull the green back in. But stay away from the anode wires while unit is powered up. I will check back tuesday night.

I had already futzed with the convergence controls for the Blue and Red before I found the service mode and before I posted here (yes, stupid, I know). I have tweaked the magnet rings on the green neck and I can't seem to get the green grid square. It seems to be high in the upper left corner. It also pretty much fills the screen from top to bottom and I know the red and green did not before I messed with it. Basically what I am trying to say is that I am going to have to do the convergence totally from scratch starting with getting the green square and aligned right.
Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
James

Start with the green, get it as square as possible. then pull the others to it, one at a time. I assume you have found the grid? each crt will have its own grid for alignment. Gonna take some time to square it all up. If ya run into a situation where you cannot pull it in, then maybe ya lost something in the convergence circuit. Would still like to see a photo of that board. Just want to make sure its the older adjustment style with many gain controls. If the unit is newer, with the cursor that moves around the grid, this will be much easier for you. Good luck
