Black bars on Widescreen HDTV monitor???

I just purchased a Panasonic PT-47WX53 HDTV ready widescreen monitor rear projection TV.
When I watch DVDs(widescreen), it show black bars on the top and the bottom of the screen. Pictures is clear and not distorted. I play with TV aspect ration and set the DVD player to wide display. I can't get rid of the black bars.
When I watch channels broadcasting 16:9 ration, I get black bars like DVDs but picture is squashed and distored.
I called Panasonic tech support, and they said I will always get black bars when watching DVD(widescreen) on any widescreen monitors.
Is this true? I just want watch DVD in full widescreen and watch channels broadcasting 16:9 in full widescreen. What do I need to do?
