Can I use TV projector as wall projector? Can't Post

Hello,
I recently came up on an 50" RCA rear projection TV, it has no screen but the projector works. My question is, can I use this projector to project onto a canvas? When it projects to my wall it's really blurry, I assume thats because the screen is what pulls all the colors together to make the picture, is this true? If so, if I were to get the canvas pull down screen, would that focus everything in or is there another way I can do it. This thing is a monster but it was free & it would be really cool to get this thing going. Anyone know how far back it would have to be to get a picture bigger than 65"? I ask because if I don't have the room to move it back there is no point because I already have a 65" rear projection. Oh, the TV is all taken apart & the projector is out & still working. Thank you.

The main problem with doing this is The CRT's are angled and built to reflect off the mirror and focus to a certain point, (the screen) So if you move this point out not only will the image be rerversed but to get it to converge and focus would be a major pain, Then just to get it close the entire guts of this tv would have to be about 5 feet directly in front of it. So since most tv repair shops can sell you a used screen for about $100.00.........

Yes, this is completely possible. I've done it.
Mine projected from about 15 ft, onto painted wall.
My viewing screen was approx 120-inch diag...

Movies and XBOX games were absolutely amazing.

A few things you'll need to tackle:

Angle (all 3 crts should face straight)

Focus (i had to remove the wingnuts from the lenses to allow greater focus adjustments)
You'll need to make MAJOR adjustments to your focus, thats why you saw a blur of color... Just turn the focus pots and twist the lenses till you're happy.

Distance (further away, less brightness, but bigger picture)

Convergence (this will also need MAJOR adjustments)

Safety (gotta build a cabinet so no one gets shocked)

Does your RCA by any chance have the removable chassis? (The box) If so you've got it made. I wished for one of those when I built mine, instead I had to build a plywood box.

My biggest problem was where to place the 'projector'...
It has to be raised up to about mid-way up your desired 'screen', which poses a problem... Do you put it BEHIND the seating (peoples heads get in the way) or in FRONT of the seating (projector obscures view of screen).....

The image will never be as bright/sharp as it was when it was still a 'television', but it's amazing for video games/movies....

Just get ya a surround sound, you'll be at the theatre!
