Destorying a Hitachi 46EX1B - advice Can't Post

Hi all,

I just got a new Sanyo HDTV and my wife wants me to get rid our old (13 years old) Hitachi 46EX1B. The hitachi is big and heavy and is currently in our basement. So far, none of my friends have answered my request for help getting it out of the basement.

So, my new plan is to break the tv into 4-5 pieces and take it out that way. However, I'm worried about exploding picture tubs or capacitors still holding power.

Does anyone have any tips/do's/don'ts for what I'm about to do? Does anyone know how long the TV needs to be unplugged for the capacitors to drain? How do I deal with the 3 picture tubes?

I work an hour away from where I live so that wouldnt work. Plus, it's going to be a real pain getting it back up those stairs and I'm afraid the walls will get damaged.

I put it on craigslist and will give it a week....but then it's sledge hammering time.

I know this might be a long shot, however I was given a Hitachi 46EX1B big screen and I cant' find a user manual to figure out how to program it. Can you help me out?
