HELP-Sony KP48S70 Mirror Cracked Can't Post

Well I just had a new wall unit setup around my Sony 48" and when the delivery guys were making final adjustments on the light brigde, it fell and hit the back of the TV. Needless to say, the deflector mirror inside, the mirror that the 3 color jets bounce off of, has cracked in 4 pieces. I'm in need of a new mirror and am curious as to the cost associated with this. Since this unit is out of production would it be cheaper to go with a new, comparable unit, or get this repaired by an in-home service center?

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

Thanks in advance.....CB

Re: [Guest] HELP-Sony KP48S70 Mirror Cracked [In reply to] Can't Post

Well I was able to answer my own question. After calling about a ½ dozen repair shops, who quoted me anywhere from $150 to $500 (1 even said to throw out the TV and replace it!!!) I got in touch with Sony's parts warehouse. They were able to sell me the part for $48.00. Two days later the new mirror arrived. I pulled the back housing off the TV and installed the new mirror and used an anti-static lens cloth to clean the cracked mirror debris from the color jets. Since the unit wasn't jarred, just enough of an impact to crack the mirror on top, a reallignment was not needed. I now have a working unit again.
