Hitachi 50V720. trick lamp Can't Post

I have hitachi 50 inch rear projection TV I'm playing around with, it was free.

Is there anyway to trick it in to behaving as if the lamp was functional so I can trouble shoot it.

Picture of light and housing.

From the black connector on top there is two wires, one is grounded to the bulb casing, the other is connected to the base of the bulb.

It's basically just two wires running from the plug, no ballast or electronics in the housing.

I don't believe there is way to trick it into thinking there is a lamp installed. What test (troubleshooting) do you need to do? What are you trying to determine?

Re-install everything. Turn on power and listen at rear of the TV in a quiet room. If you hear a faint squeal, that is the ballast building up a High Voltage, High Frequency signal to apply across the bulb. If the squeal quits and restarts, then TV shuts down after 3 tries, lamp is most likely faulty.

If lamp is normal, TV will start. The only way to test for sure is to install a new bulb or lamp.
