Hitachi Cu5000K projection TV snowy dark areas Can't Post

I recently fixed the convergence on this older rear projection tv (Hitachi CU5000K 1989) and the picture looks great except for the dark areas that seems to have a snowy outline to it. DVDs play great with very minimal snowy outlining, but cable doesn't looks so good, lots of snowy dark areas and outlines. Anyone know what this might be?

I thought it might have been the tuner also, but Saturday I pulled the "sound board" out because the right speaker wasn't working either and I found about 10 capacitors that looked really bad. After replacing them with a few used caps from a broken modem (temporary fix until I get the new caps in) the sound started working on the right speaker and sound really good. For some reason the picture has improved also, no more snowy dark areas. I am surprised this old TV still looks good... I really enjoy watching this thing opposed to a newer 32 inch TV.
