Hi Guys,

I have a JVC AV-48WP30 48in. tv and when i turn it on i dont get a picture or sound i can just hear a thump noise. sounds like the tv trys to start and the safty kicks in and stops it. the blue light dims alittle then brightens then dims ect...

I been hearing that this is a power supply issue can anyone confirm?

it could also be a fault elsewhere in the tv that is shutting down the power supply. check the horizontal out transistor for short circuit first.

i dont have the circuit but it will be on a heatsink by the flyback transformer

I found the heatsinks with the transistors on them... there are 2 of them one is taller then the other. I have a multi-tester can you please let me know how i can test to see if both of those heatsinks with transistors are working fine and dont have a short????
Also i know i wrote above that some guy told me that i had to change the power supply.. do you know how the power supply looks? because i was told that the whole board is a power supply and if one part fails thats when u see issues...
if you can please let me know how i can test both of these transistors that would be amazing and i thank you for the information you have provide me so far...
again thanks hope to hear from you soon

the horizontal transistor has three legs. the other device may be an ic if it has more legs. anyway unplug the tv and connect your meter to the centre (collector) pin and measure on ohms range to either of the other pins. if it reads low or zero ohms then the transistor is croaked and needs replacing

Hey Chris again there are 2 silver heat sinks with a transistor on each beside the FLYBACK TRANSFORMER...
The way i tested both transistors... i put the black on the base and the red on the emitter i got 2.35 and then black on base and red on collector and i got 2.35 then black on emitter and red on collector and i got 0.00....
the other one i put the black on the base and the red on the emitter i got 2.39 and then black on base and red on collector and i got 0.49 then black on emitter and red on collector and i got 0.48....

any idea if these are good or bad i am confused lol... thanks again
