Mistsubishi VS-A50

I have a Mistu VS-A50 projection and would like to know what the best way to improve picture quality is?
If I go with a product like Video Essentials which is DVD based do I have to calibrate each input seperately or just once.
Both DVD and cable are using component Video Inputs. Its an HDTV convertor, but only 3 channels broadcast in HDTV.
