Philips 55pp9401 No Sound/Video Can't Post

This TV supposedly has the Hitachi chassis DP15.

When turned on theirs no picture or sound but power light stays on and you hear the reply click on. On the circuit boards all green lights are on and the one red light is on.

I found one resistor bad location RK54, values 1.8ohm 1 watt in the convergence circuit .

Searching the web I seen that the STK chips shorts in this model and cause the symptom im having, And one place I read that you can unsolder the STK chips and see if TV powers on if it does then it most likely the STK's. This TV has STK392-110.

So is it safe to unsolder STK's and power on TV to find out if there Bad?

Thanks...

Yes, but don't expect to see a converged picture.

You're just seeing if you get more signs of life (audio/high voltage/lit screen/picture, etc.).

Thanks For your reply jts1957.

Also I have a spare Stk392-110. So I assume its is safe to unsolder one at a time and try TV to find shorted one?

Best to replace them as a pair. Presumably them have the same hours of stress/use.

Let's say you find only one shorted and replace it. Twelve weeks later you find out the other one has shorted and replace it.
You've had to lug the set in (or yourself to the set) twice in three months time. You wound up replacing both ICs anyway. Did you really save any money or time? Not to forget the customers opinion of your work.

Removed both and its still didn't do anything different.

when turned on I hear speakers pop but no sound.
Don't hear any High voltage static sound of CRT charging up.

Have you checked the fuses? Are necessary power supplies present?

fuses are good.

How do i know what ones are necessary?

On trouble shooting in service manual
Voltage at pin(4) of
IP01 14V - 20V ?

I tested and get about less then 0.30 volts on all 5 pins when off, then when powered on theres around -5.6 volts on pin 4

manual says -----when on i get
pin 1. 2.0v----------7.6v
pin 2. 0v------------7.6v
pin 3. 161.3v--------0v
pin 4. 15.4v---------5.6v
pin 5. 0v------------7.6v

Have you followed the troubleshooting chart?Wink

You are using C905 "-" terminal (or equiv.) as your ground for those measurements?

yeah Im following the troubleshooting chart, that how I came across that STR-F6629B 3+ regulator.

No i used convergence heat sink, but i used c905 and got these readings.

manual says -----when on i get
pin 1. 2.0v-------____0.8v
pin 2. 0v---------___-0.10v
pin 3. 161.3v-----___155.v
pin 4. 15.4v------___14v
pin 5. 0v---------___-0.10v

Ok I found IP06 all 4 joint broke and resolder then and get static charge from flyback. Sometime you get picture and sound now, when you get picture it last a random about of seconds then cuts of or sometime cuts off and come back on. when its on pin 1 has 1.8volts

Can you give a quick recap of your path through troubleshooting chart? I assume you still have power light and relay click, but where from there?

Re: [jts1957] Philips 55pp9401 No Sound/Video [In reply to] Can't Post

ok this is what i found out.. flyback comes on after i resolder IP06 then i took signal board out and check it for joint problems and put it back in and turn on and no flyback static sound so left unplug for hours and came back and flyback had static charge and got picture/sound sometimes for few seconds or it flicker on and off.

Tapped the heat sink with Ip01 and that cause picture to flicker or cut off. so pulled out deflection board and resoldering all that area and recheck around and found a resistor that wasn't solder well you could see through the hole.

Put all back in and turned on and all IP01 pins have about close to what they should have but no flyback static sound now. Now when off all pins have 50 volts.

I ended up on troubleshooting part B, then got stuck at pin 4 voltage but now seems to have it after resoldering. fuse FP01 still good, then it comes to check IP01.

Still got power and its relay S901 that i hear.

I'm gonna leave unplug and see if flyback come back.

Unplugged didnt help it.

I hear both relays on the power board click on, S901 power relay and S902 audio relay.

So right now Ip01 has right voltages, but flyback doesn't come on sometime. When it comes on sometimes picture cuts off and on that it looks like voltage loss for few second then worked after that.
