Phllips 60" MODEL # 60PP9202/17F Popping sound when powered up Can't Post

Hello all,

I was watching my set tonight and it "popped" and the screen went blank. I do have sound but no picture. When the TV is turned on there is a distinctive loud fizzing sound followed by a pop. What should I look for first? This set is 3 years old and I have never had a problem with it before and the picture has been great. Any ideas what I should look for first?

Thanks for the help.

This is the tube where the sound is coming from. It is the far right tube and when the tv is powered on it attempts to power up then goes blank. Is this board bad?

if that tube is making a noise, see if there are sparks inside the glass neck.if so the tube needs replacing, but from experience I will tell you that its usually best to change all three to maintain colour balance at its best.

yes there are sparks in the neck. i will try to do that. I thought maybe it might have been the convergance board but I will try the tube first.

thanks

Chris,

Is this tube and lens one assembly? Or is it a two part?

the tube is sold separately.
Philips part numbers are

932217322682-red
932217323682-blue

good luck.

Corey, be advised that if your not a tech(and it sounds like you are not), your biting off more than you are bargaining for. replacing a tube and more importantly getting it adjusted and converged is not something you can do without training, I`m not trying to insult you I`m trying to save you a lot of grief, Larry E

Larry,

Thanks for the heads up and your concerns. From the looks of the bulb\lens unit there appears to be adjustment areas. Like the wingnut on the lens for instance. i did make note of that and how the tube was placed in the TV. I am hoping by leaving the lens alone I will only have to worry about the placement of the assembly in the TV. I don't have TV experience per say but I have taken apart $150,000 material cutting machines at work and put them back together and didn't have any training for that either. I think most things are common sense so I'm going to give it a shot. If I'm not able to line it up correctly I'll just call a repairman to handle that part. I do appreciate your post and will post up the results. I won't have tube until later in the week so it will be a few days. If you know of any how to do's on bulb replacement please post them up.

Thanks

Corey, you don`t touch the wing-nuts, those are for focus adjustment, there are 4 screws that need to be removed to get the lens off, (which you will have to do), the only advice I`ll give you is to call a tech, your not going to make it any easier for the tech by replacing the tube yourself, if your lucky you`ll save yourself about $50 in labor charges, if you had turned the wing-nuts on the lens that error would have cost you the $50, what other errors will you make??? If your absolutely sure you want to attempt this send me your e-mail address and I`ll e-mail you back with what you have to do, I won`t post it here.
videotech@xtalwind.net I still think you should let a tech handle it, Larry E

So how did it go? I am having some problems myself with the TV, there is no picture when I turn it on but there is a spark on all three of them... Do I have to replace all three tubes or do I have a different problem? Also, my LED is red if that has anything to do with it and I check the prices online for the tubes and they're about $200+ each??? I might as well buy a new TV if that is the case but I'm hoping that it is not.
Thanks,
Charles

It's looking like I need new convergance chips as well.

As far as your TV goes yes the tubes are that much money. If you replace all three your looking at around 1000.00 probably.
