Re: [jschuholz] Pioneer SD-P5053 picture problem [In reply to] Can't Post

Mike,
update - when I slid the deflection board out - a 4 pin connector came off (near front of tv) - re-installed this and sets tubes come on. I have a red convergence problem - the red gun has a moon shape on the cross (manual convergence screen). I'm assuming i need to replace stk's and check resistors, caps, and solder joints around these chips. Red, blue, and green guns have a sharp focused picture - just out of convergence. Am I on the right track ? Please update on service manuals when U get a chance - I did find a site that sells them but they have several suffix's on this model ? 5053-K, 5053K, 4053K, 4053-K and they all have different prices ? Don't understand. THanks, John

follow up - forgot a connector on front of set - have red convergence problem. I need convergence schematic and also service manual for re-alighnment. Will have to replace stk ic - noticed 220 ufd caps are corroded - fixed this but still doesn't work - probable need to replace these also. Thanks, John

First thing to do is check every connector you disconnected and those you think you didn't. Disconnect and reconnect to make sure they are seated properly. Possible, but very unlikely it's anything else if you have been reasonably careful with the capacitor replacement.

Mike,
U must have missed my follow-up - I did miss a connector. THe set does exactly the same thing. I missed the top of the thread where the set was having black line across the bottom. My set has a red convergence problem. I cna adjust it manual from the front panel but not enough to align ot with the blue, green crts. The convergence board (behind front panel in front of tv) has some bad solder connections where the 220 uFD caps are - fixed these but to no change in pic. To fix this I need the service manual, also what R all those pots on this board for ? Do U think the STK is bad - I thought when these are bad, the convergence can't be moved at all. John

I'm not a "TV tech", just an electronics hobbyist with no formal training.I do have the manuals - You need APR2273 the SD-P4053-K manual that covers all the common circuitry and fucntion in the model line. I also have APR2285, the manual for SD-P5053-K and others, for stuff that is different than the SD-P4053-K. Alignment is in the SD-P4053-K manual. Here's the rub, much of the manual is 11*16 sheets, hard to copy or scan... You need about 16 pages of the adjustment section plus who knows what schematics and drawings.

Mike,
Think the best avenue here is for me to download the p4053 manual (on user-manuals.com). Is there any thing I would need in the P5053 manual ? If so -- is it possible to copy those ? I definitely need the convergence board layout, schematic, and how-to manually adjust convergence. Owners manual would also be nice. If yours are not duplicable, let me know. If U can duplicate them - let me know how much it would be. Thanks, John
Have a feeling that the electrolytic caps (about 10) on this board are probable bad (solder joints don't look good). I'm going to replace them and then the stk IC.

There isn't a whole lot in the P5053K manual, but if you find something missing or different. I'll try to scan and send.

This morning purchased a p4053 manual from user-manuals.com. Unfortunately they took my money and no download. Must be an offshore outfit. They do not respond to emails I've sent them. Do U have a good contact for service manuals ? Thanks, John

Just bought an old Pioneer SD P5053 today and the screen needs to be cleaned. What should I do to do this, is there a way to take it off and what should i clean it with? Any help appreciated.
