Proscan 52 inch projection TV is turning itself off

I am not sure of the rest of the model number of this TV so bear with me. This TV is about 10 years old and has been working wonderfully until recently. As you are watching TV it would just turn itself off and sometimes it would just turn itself back on, no problem. Well shortly after, even when the TV is off you could hear a crackling coming from the left speaker. We disconnected both speakers and the problem went away temporarily. Well now it has gotten a lot worse in that it will turn itself off and sometimes wont come back on for a few minutes. The green light will come on for a few seconds and then turn off, there is never a picture. But then sometimes it will come on and stay on for a few minutes and then turn itself off. It almost seems like a short of some kind. Any help will be appreciated.
