RCA tv changes channels constantly

RCA tv changes channels constantly	Can't Post

I have a Rca model P52927, chassis PTK195M26B that just started today changing channels constantly. It will not respond to any signals from the remote or the front of the tv. The only way to get it to stop is to unplug it. After waiting a while I plug it in and turn it on and it's ok for a while and then starts again. Any suggestions?

Remove the channel up (or down, you didn't specify which way channels were changing, up or down) switch from the front panel keyboard. If problem stops and you now have control, replace the switch.

The channels were changing from high to low. I tried the channel buttons on the front of the tv and they would change back up but when I released the up button they would start down again. Also I forgot to mention the tv won't power on sometimes after after I unplug and replug. This morning it will not power on.

If the channel up button has corroded so that it is making contact irregardless of whether you are pressing it or not ...
Once the set is on, unplug the whole keyboard and see if it stops.

Yes, it stops when I unplug the keypad. Now what do I need to replace?

What I mean is do I replace the button itself or the little circuit board it pushes on?

Ok, I see that switch. Can I buy the circuit board or will I have to buy just the switch? And where do I buy these things?

If one failed, how viable are the others? You may want to change them all and be done with it.

Generic from Digikey would be cheaper, but you have to specify many things: pin spacing, with or without ground pin, plunger height, operating force, just to name a few.

Thanks jts1957. I ordered and received the switch. I just installed it and all the switches on the panel now work fine and there's no channel changing on it's own. BUT, now my remote won't work. I have a second remote that doesn't work either. Any ideas?

Does anyone have any ideas on why my remotes won't work after I replaced one of the button switches on the front panel?

gpg101;.....

Look for a wire that goes to the IR reciever (A little black thingy) that usually is mounted around the center CRT (Green) at the top on a small PC board....
You may have inadvertantly disconnected it when you changed the channel switch...
Check both ends for good connection...

Hey thanks. I just jiggled the connector on that little circuit board and now the remote works. Thanks for the help.

You might want to check the connections on that board & make sure they are OK....
Or else it WILL crap out when you least expect it to....
Just jiggleing a connection does NOT fix it...
Check & make sure the connector is fully seated....
