And want to add that it is only the red gun that is causing this,

Misfire;....

The RCA PTK 195 chassis can be a NIGHTMARE to service...
I'll try to help you...
Right off the top , there are 2 possibilities that come to mind...
1)..
The red yoke slid down the neck of the red CRT...
2)..
You have a problem in the red convergence circuitry...
Could be in the power supply or the red convergence transistors...

A model number may help...
Getting a service manual for the PTK195 is a BITCH
There are 2 completely different versions of the convergence circuitry for the PTK195 chassis series..
And I could NOT find one of them...Mad....

How much TV/Electronic repair experience do you have ???

Hey guy's, yup, me again,,, Thinking this might be it for the ole gal unless you guys think its worth messing with, I had switched the small elec board from the red gun to the blue gun and vice versa, and changed the jumper wire accordingly, everything was hooked back up,,, I was just looking for a change or a difference, the one in the foto was replaced because of TV coolant gotten on it from red gun earlier,
When I powered the set up, the resister in the yellow circle started glowing red as hell and set didn't come on, So I don't know now, the little boards on bottem of guns all have same part number other than the jumper wire location which I switched, I wouldn't think that would have done it?

jts1957;....

Thanks again for the service manual location...
Got the manual again...
Thanks for the jumper & resistor info...

Misfire;...
I downloaded a 19 part manual that I have to put together into one gigantic service manual...
As soon as I do that & look thru it , I'll be back...

sense it was working from last time, I watched a few videos from you-tube from my lap-top using this digital to analog conversion thing,,, would that maybe have an impact on anything?

Do you mean "my" Personal Profile ???
Because 'Advanced' or 'Basic' editor is NOT shown at the reply box as it was...

I have the new Windows 8.1 with Internet Explorer 10 , so that should cover it , but , it doesn't...

Misfire;...
Double Nah !!!...

Now back to the TV;...

On the yokes there are 2 sets of wires...
Both will have 4 wires each...
One set should have a red , blue , yellow & a green wire...(Usually)..
That set is for Horiz & vertical deflection & IS NOT the set we want...
The set we want will have thinner wires..
That set is for the convergence...
The thinner wires on the red yoke will go to the convergence board...
There are 3 connectors running along the left side of the panel , I believe...
The bottom connector should be "J19301" & is the connector for the red yoke..
UNPLUG the wiring that goes to that connector...
The center one , "J19302" , is for the green yoke...
Disconnect that one & PLUG the red connector into the green connection..
Plug the wires that go to the green yoke into the red connection...
Essentially what we are doing here is switching convergence circuits from the red & green to see what gives..
Turn on the TV ...
Do not worry about the convergence being out of kilter, it will be !!...
What we want to know is IF the previous red box that you had before is STILL red or did it change to green..
Please post results...

THANKS...

Hey Ron,, I had tried something similar to that earlier with the small circuit boards that mount on bottem of guns, and put jumper wires in appropriate location for color, I swapped the red with blue gun board and turned on set and this resister was glowing red as hell,,, now set will not come on.

NO , NO , NOOOOO , you DIDN't !!!....
Those boards are for CRT drive , video to the CRT , focus , ETC & have NOTHING,I repeat , NOTHING to do with the convergence test that I asked for...

Swapping those 2 boards accomplished NOTHING as you found out the hard way...

First three jumpers determines the color drive that is fed to each CRT cathode. Necessary for a working set to have ONLY one of each color. Since all three CRTs are the same, usually just swapping whole boards (if wire length adequate) is sufficient for testing.

No sir, not replaced anything, just swapped the red gun board with blue gun board prior to your instruction's on swapping the plug in leads on convergence board,,, would that have caused the resister to glow?

well I guess I can forget about the red cone I had in the screen and try to focus on why the set wont come on now,
from that resister glow? would you say it went bad or something down stream caused it to burn out?

Re: [Misfire] Round 2 with the RCA PTK195 61" [In reply to] Can't Post

Misfire;...

The reason the set may not be coming on COULD be due to the resistor that you said is fried !!!
That being R14703 !!!
EDIT;...REMOVE ALL 3 CRT panels from the bottom of the CRTs...
Then;=>..
Unsolder one end of that resistor to isolate it from the circuit...
Use your handy-dandy DVM to read ohms & check & see what you get across the leads...
Chances are that it's bad..
THEN check ohms to chassis ground (Tuner cover is a good place for chassis ground) on EACH side of R14703...
You should get a very low reading on one side & a higher reading on the other...
PLEASE POST READINGS !!!...
AFTER YOU POST THE READINGS:..
IF resistor reads bad;...
Try replacing that with a 3 WATT 3 or 2.7 ohm flameproof resistor...

PLEASE post results & lets stay on course...

CRT filament on one side ... flyback transformer winding on other. I suspect there won't be very much of a difference.

You'd think that in a "normal" schematic !!!
I traced out the filament line all over the SM & could NOT find where it connects to the R , G & B CRT filaments...
Off the flyback , one line runs to xrp (?) etc (342-D) , a second line goes thru R14703 to a connector at 322-D , another line breaks off there to CR19200 & splits off to conv 381-F !!!

A person can get dizzy chasing lines around this manual...

I'm going to edit my previous post & see IF that helps...

Thanks jts1957...

Misfire;.....

THANKS for the pix with the readings...

55.7 ohms means R14703 DEFINITELY BAD !!!!
0.03 ohms to apparently chassis ground means that the winding on the flyback apparently good...
1 . indicates no shorts on the line to other circuits that are fed thru R14703...
I STRONGLY suggest you get a 3.0 OR 2.7 ohm 3 watt flameproof resistor & install it..
With ALL the CRT panels OFF the CRTs , turn the TV on..
Observe R14703 & see if it smokes or turns red..
IF it does , STOP & post back here..
IF OK , connect the green & blue CRT panels back onto their respective CRTs...
Again turn the TV on & watch R14703...
IF OK , connect the red CRT panel onto the red CRT..
Observe R14703 & see if it smokes or turns red..
IF it does , STOP & post back here..
When you do this PLEASE post back with the results & we should have the red square back to tackle...

THANKS...
