SONY KP51HW40 BLUE SCREEN Can't Post

Frown I have a problem with my television now with fading to blue. Turn on the tele and for the first few minutes it is fine but after about 5 minutes its fades completely to blue...CRT problem here? Any insight would be greatful. The set is only 3 years old and I would hate to have to replace it already.

Re: [RANDUFF] SONY KP51HW40 BLUE SCREEN [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi

I am having the same problem with a 2 year old Sony 51". I took the back off and watched the red and green tubes slowly fade until they are dark and the screen is all blue.

I bought the 200.00 warranty but they told me if they come out and it isn't the picture tubes then they will charge me 100.00 just for coming out and "wiggling stuff" to see what the problem is. I told him forget it. I wouldnt give him 100.00 for wiggling if he worked for chipendales.Tongue I can wiggle stuff.

I too am having the same problem, which is why I came to this forum. Seems like there may be a very common problem here. I hope someone can shed some light before I shed some $$$.

One difference with my issue is it doesn't happen when I'm on the "Wide Zoom" mode. The other three (Normal, Full, and Zoom) does it every time.

Look on the website shown below. Search Under Sony in the manufacturer specific catagory. WWW.hometheatrespot.com. Hope that helps.

Re: [Tomjac] SONY KP51HW40 BLUE SCREEN [In reply to] Can't Post

I too am experiencing the blue screen of death when turning on the TV. It goes blue then fades off. I had a independent tech come out and he disconnected the Blue CRT and then turned the picture on and it would display just with the Red & Green. He said that it would cost an arm and a leg to repair just the blue CRT. I then contacted a Sony certified repair agency and they said that they would need to replace the entire CRT column (Red,Blue,Green). Of course this would almost triple the cost of repairs. I have also contacted Sony customer service and of they were of ZERO assistance. They told me to contact a certified repair agency. I only had the thing three years and there have not been ANY reports to Sony about this problem. I told them to consider mine the first. Any help would be appreciated

Re: [apalman] SONY KP51HW40 BLUE SCREEN [In reply to] Can't Post

hi,
i have a
sony 53" model #kp-53s35 that was new in
1997. it will turn on for just 15-20 seconds just
fine, then it gets a bright blue screen for a few
seconds and sounds like it has shut off. but just the
picture is off. it is still on with the stereo light
on, but no sound or picture. if you turn it off and
back on again it goes to the blue screen right off and
then goes off again.
what could this be? and what do you think it will run
to fix it? (ballpark).
thanks for your time,
gregg

Re: [Vplayer] SONY KP51HW40 BLUE SCREEN [In reply to] Can't Post

i got up this morning, flipped it on and it goes to a blue screen with sound. if you turn it off for a few seconds and then back on, it will get a picture and stay on for a while. then it goes to a blue screen and then sounds like it shuts down again. but it is still on. just now picture or sound. turn it off and back on again and it's fine. sometimes you have to turn it off and on again several times, but then it's good for the day as long as you dont turn it off. or the whole process starts over again. it's been on now for three hours just fine. what do you make of that? seems if the crt was bad or shorted it would stay bad.
