My samsung HCN4226w just developed problems. I have like a green halo around the pictures. I am assuming from reading here that my ic board went out and need to replace it. Just trying to verify that its part #BP94-00383A available at vancebaldwin.com. Your help is very appreciated, as I don't want to order the wrong part.

If anyone can fax me the adjustments manual pages needed, I would appreciate that as well.

Thanks Todd Chaffee fax # 1-260-693-6511 or email toddc@brcrp.com

Could someone please send me the service manual pages? I'd really appreciate it. In fact, I might be able to host 'em and post the link here so that people can just download them instead of requesting them.

I'm wr16david@vfs.com

Re: [DaveMichael] Samsung 42" Convergence problem [In reply to] Can't Post

I just had the same problem with my HCN4226w. I took it in and the repair guy told me it was a convergence failure and it would be about $430 to repair it. After reading that it is a ~$70 part and only took a tech 15 minutes to replace it, I figured I could do it myself. I found the convergence module at vancebaldwin.com for $64 (incl. shipping) and ordered it but I wondered if any of you who have replaced the part yourself had the manuals everyone keeps talking about or any other advice about how to do it.

I can't believe that there are so many problems with this module. You'd think Samsung would do something about it, but then again, why should they care? - they've already got our money. Bastards!

If you have the manuals or any advice, please PLEASE send them to: lafrate@uiuc.edu.

Thanks!

PS- Do you think it would be OK if we posted the manuals as a PDF so that everyone can have open access to them or would this get us in lots of trouble with Samsung?

Re: [dr.jae7] Samsung 42" Convergence problem [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi all,

I would like to share my experience with all since this forum saved me ~$300.

My Akai PT4298 (same as Samsung HCM 4216) suddenly showed a distorted picture with colors all over the place and some lines bowing in.

My wife had it picked up by a local repair shop (after talking to several of those guys and most of them did not even want to touch it); they diagnosed a defective convergence board (just by looking at the picture) and quoted us $500 to rebuild the board (on top of several weeks to get the parts). This seemed a little bit excessive to me, so I found this page with all the good information.

The repair guy was willing to let me buy a new board and he would put it in for $150 ("but it will require way more work to calibrate it again and most likely it'll cost $400 to fix it"). BS.

I ordered the part (BP94-00383A), picked up the TV, removed the old board, plugged in the new one, adjusted the red and blue convergence and the thing is working just fine. It took me 30min max and can be done by anyone who is able to use a screwdriver.

Thanks again for all the info here and don't be afraid to fix a problem yourself.

Mike.

Re: [mheim1] Samsung 42" Convergence problem [In reply to] Can't Post

Hello,

I have a Samsung HCN653WX/XAA (65"). It is about 2-1/2 years old. The convergence went out a week ago. The red is completely out of focus. The blue appears to be OK. The top of the screen is curved (pin-cushioned). The "perfect focus" stops at 4%.

I purchased a service manual, just in case (not a user friendly book), and the convergence amp board (less than $90 + shipping). The P/N for the 65" listed above is BP95-00142P. Thanks to MikemaierTV for the pic. Though it is a different P/N, it looks identical (though it may not be internally). The ICs on the board itself are P/N STK392-040. I could not find them on the Samsung site or anywhere. Anyway, buying the entire board appears to be the way to go according to this thread and others I have read.

I am not a TV repairman; in fact I know little about TVs. I opened the back. The board is on the RH side, (viewed from the back), mid way down from the back in fact. It is attached to the chassis with one screw. I'll install the new one tonight and keep you posted whether it works or not.

I agree with most here. This is ridiculous. Why are these boards failing right and left?

Re: [XB12R-64] Samsung 42" Convergence problem [In reply to] Can't Post

I installed the new board last night. It is an easy task.

The convergence board is fitted with (3), 3 or 4 pin male connectors, one for each CRT. I just placed the new board next to the old one in the TV and plugged the connectors one at a time so there was no chance I could mix them up. The new board comes also with two pigtails fitted with (2) female multi-pin connectors. The large one connects to one of the rear main boards in the chassis (LH side), the other to the other main board (RH side). I assured that the plastic thermal shield was in place in front of the heat sink located at the front of the convergence board, bundled the wires the best I could, replaced the TV (2) back covers. And voila!

I turned on the TV, and it worked. There was no need for the service manual in fact. The colors were fine. I run the "Perfect Focus" function, which was not even necessary. The TV ran for 3 hours last night, and 1 this morning. It still works fine.

Note that the new convergence board has different components on it. It is possible that the mfg. has used a new supplier. The P/N was the same though. There was not even a revision # printed on the label.

Thanks to all for the info contained in this thread.

Just a note to those of you looking to purchase this part. I would strongly advise against ordering it from Vance Baldwin. I looked up the part number on their website and it was out of stock but they had a substitute part so I ordered this one. I received the part and it was the wrong one! I called back and customer service was terrible. The woman I spoke with was supposed to call Samsung and check to see what the correct substitute part was, but she never called me back. I called them back and spoke with someone else who said he would allow me to return the part but claimed it was not their fault, so I would have to pay for the return shipping. So I ordered the part directly from Samsung instead.

I have An HCn4226w. Just the other night, the picture distorted for 10 seconds and then the tv just shut off. Now it wont turn on all I get is a click and a squeal and the power light flashes red. Is this similar to your problem and did you ever find a fix? Does anyone else have any advice? I've read alot about convergence problems in these, can that contribute to this? Also, when I unplug the blue wire to convergence board, I get a blue screen, I just don't know if changing the board will be the fix? Any insight is appreciated.

That is how the service tech troubleshot my HCN4226W to determine the problem by unplugging the power (blue) cable to the CG/AMP board and the set came on showing the blue display with some convergence issues. He said that proved the IC modules(STK 392-040) were bad and to replace them. Look at my other posts on what I have learned so far about this set.

Re: [Cajun] Samsung 42" Convergence problem [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi,

New to the forum here! Having the same problem as folks mention here for my 42" Samsung HDTV. When I do the convergence from the regular menu, the red cross hairs would not move sideways - they move up and down though. The red is also curved on the sides (inward towards center of the screen) and slightly curved at all four corners.

When I go to the service menu (Mute>1>8>3), I can adjust the blue lines (which need no adjustment) but have the same problem with the red lines. Cannot move it sideways. Plus the lines are bent on the sides and corners.

Would I need to replace the IC's mentioned here? Any help, guidance is much appreciated.

Thanks,

Re: [LaFrate] Samsung 42" Convergence problem [In reply to] Can't Post

I just wanted to let everyone know that I fixed my TV last night. It was an extremely simple task and only took about 30 minutes total. If you have this problem, don't pay a repair shop to fix it! Anyone with a brain and screwdriver can do this. I had to adjust the convergence a couple of times and then run the perfect focus, but after that the TV worked fine.

Just a note about purchasing parts: I have had problems finding the correct part due to Samsung referencing the wrong part number for these things, so before you go and order a replacement part, check the back of the old one to make sure that you have the correct part number. I used the one listed on Samsung's website and could have saved myself a lot of time if I had just checked myself.

And one more thing: During the on-going saga of trying to order the correct part and figure out how to fix the TV, a Samsung customer service tech gave me the number to a hotline they have for consumers trying to fix their own TVs. Apparently you can call and speak with a certified Samsung repair tech and they can help you troubleshoot/fix the problem. I was able to fix it without calling, but others here might find it helpful. They are open M-F from 2-5 PM EST, and the the number is: 973-601-6124.

Good luck!

In Reply To
Remarkable: My 42" had the same issue after about 2.5 years. I was quoted $350 to repair the IC by a Samsung recommended local repairman.

I'd rather not attempt the repair myself. Considering the part cost roughly $100 - is this a ripoff?

Re: [@@] Samsung 42" Convergence problem [In reply to] Can't Post

Every one keeps screeming for the service manual, But what I have found is once you got this you will read the "service adjustment" and suddnly deside you can overcome a electrical componet failer by screwing around in the service menu. First allways replace the IC's and fuse or replace the board, board replacment is far easer, Now the number for this board (the current one is BP94-00383A) change around a bit, if they give you a board that crosses to that number it's all the same board, the reason for this is Samsung upgrades this board by beefing up capacitors, increasing resistor wattages, changing the way a diode works, all in a effort to finaly produce a curcuit that may last a few more years. If you don't happen to have acsess to SAMSUNGS offical site vancebaldwin.com will show this part or give you the option of buying the current board of the week.

Service manuals with the service codes almost every time will cause more problems than they fix, if not used by a tech that knows how and when to use them

I am trying to order the board for the 65" tv mentioned in this thread (I have the exact same tv). I don't have an account with vancebaldwin.com so they want to charge me almost $250 for the board. If I have an account, it's only $85. I do have a couple years of electronics engineering school under my belt so electronics aren't anything that scare me, but I don't work in the industry. If I set up an account with them, what do they verify in regards to your company?

Thanks

Re: [caimakale] Samsung 42" Convergence problem [In reply to] Can't Post

Well I just saved at least $400 with the info from this board. Thanks. I have a Samsung HCM4215W. After 18 months the convergence board needed to be replaced. Well that came to about $480. It is now about 18 months after that and again same symptoms. So I fogure I would rather risk $93.00 rather than buy a new TV because I was not going to have that repired again. So I ordered the part BP94-00383A from partstore.com which is the replacement part for AA95-02002A mentioned elsewhere in this thread.
Well, within 30 minutes, problem solved. Will probably order another board to keep in stock so in 18 months from now when the new one dies, I'll have it handy.
This was too easy. Thanks for the info.

That's cool, I tried ordering from partstore.com but my board is on backorder. I am going nuts watching tv with the blue ghost on everything. Hopefully the board comes in within the next couple weeks cuz this is killing me.
