Re: [rick777ok] Samsung 42" Convergence problem [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi everyone and thanks for this forum.

Anyone with the service manual for the samsung hcm4216w, I have the convergence issue, I went to mute183 menu and still cannot move the red around, is like watching a 3d movie without the glasses Mad

The worst part is that I just paid $450.00 dollars for the set 6 days ago (used), and I just saw one on ebay for $350.00. I fell in love with the looks of the tv I guess and I've got ripped off, so I can't afford to pay a tech to do the repair, after reading the whole topic I understand that I just need to replace the board which also comes with all the parts to make it work.
I don't know if is part of the same issue but the tv top and bottom part of the screen with a banana shape, like when the kids play with the computer monitor and mess up the vert. and horiz. if you know what I mean.

Please someone send me the service manual at:

jcortes01@hotmail.com

Re: [mikemaiertv] Samsung 42" Convergence problem [In reply to] Can't Post

Mr. Mike,
Thanks for all your help, One question .... I ordered a new board for my HCN653W, I specifically asked for a convergence amp pcb , they sent me a CONVERGENCE PCB MOD. The unit you are holding in the photo looks exactly like the one I have on my set. Please let me know if I ordered a BP95-00142P would that be the right part? THE last one I got was a 415B, it does not fit my televsion, someone else said the part for my unit was no longer available. If that is the case and I REPLACE the STK IC'S, what else would you order ?
THANKS ALOT.

Re: [Cajun] Samsung 42" Convergence problem [In reply to] Can't Post

My thanks especially to Cajun Smile; the advice about unplugging the BLUE power cable in order to test the set was dead on. I have an Akai PT4298.
My symptom: when you FIRST plugged it in, you heard crackling for a couple of seconds as the high-voltage supply started up, and if you looked very carefully you could see the red and green CRT filaments lighting up (the back was off, obviously), but the blue CRT filament wouldn't light. After about 2 seconds, they would all shut back off and the set was basically dead except for the SLEEP LED on the front. Apparently there's some sort of monitoring circuit at work that detects that things aren't quite right and to prevent further damage it shuts everything down. Initially I assumed the filament on the blue CRT was burned out or I had a bad connection somewhere, but after unplugging the blue +/-20V power cord to the convergence board, the set came to life and started showing me menu's, etc, in all 3 colors! (Badly aligned of course.) From the excellent advice in the rest of the forum I knew that I only had to order a replacement for the convergence board. By this time next week I'll have the TV running again. Thanks to all who have contributed here!!

Samsung 42" Convergence problem [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi all
I replaced my converg. board and is there any way to set the RGB back to a factory perfect setting?
When i try to use perfect focus it says something about factory settings and wont allow it.
Also I notice that the power button lights up red not blue like it used to?any reason for this?
Thanks for the help
Scott

Mike, It looks like the convergence board. I have a 65 inch Samsung, model HCN653WX/XAA, and the picture looked similar to yours. I ordered my convergence board from www.partstore.com . It was about $30 bucks cheaper than I found it anywhere else, paid $85. If the board is as easy to install as mine you will not have a problem as long as you know a little about electronics, I know nothing about TV's. Good luck.

HCM4215W- Samsung 42" Convergence problem [In reply to] Can't Post

In Reply To
First of all, thank you so much TV-forums.com to enable me to share valuable information.
I had Samsumg 42" rear projection TV(HCM4215W) with convergence problem usally colors don't match.. Actully it's not the first time, I had local repairman fixed it about two years ago with $350 cost. When I found out the TV was wrong again two weeks ago, I did not want to spend another $350 and decided to fix it by myself. After surfing through several websites, I was surprised many people had the exact same problem my TV had and replacing convergence board looked just simple task. As someone on this board recommnaded, I ordered #BP95-0142E from VanceBaldwin.com at less than total $83 including UPS ground shipping. After I instlled new convergence board and connected 5 cables, two from board to TV and 3 from TV to board, TV worked fine. I did not do anything, even perfect focus or manual adjustment for convergence, the only thing I did was just hooked up cable to TV. It was easy and I did not need technical mannual to install new convergence board.

Re: [fatlizard] HCM4215W- Samsung 42" Convergence problem [In reply to] Can't Post

As everyone here has already stated, I've got the HCM4215W Samsung tv and have had the convergence issue. Under the extended warranty I had the 2 IC's replaced with a quoted cost of over $400. Now about 18months later, the convergence is whacked again. I read almost every comment about the convergence issus with this TV and can't believe how many people have had this problem. I called Samsung direct and they told me to have a professional come out and quote the 'fix'. Upon receiving the quote samsung would tell me if/how they could help me with the repair. Well to do this will cost me about $90 so I figured I could try buying the part myself. I bought the board from vancebaldwin (references BP95-00142E) and swapped it out today using the 2 cables that came with the board. I turned the TV on and the picture is in my opinion WORSE! I can't seem to get the manual convergence to work and when i tried the AuotFocus, I get the error "NO SENSOR DATA" and it won't even start the auto focus? Is there a possibility the board is bad from vw.com or am i just not getting something about how to do the manual convergence? Using the mute-1-8-3 menu and following all instructions here does not seem to move the grid lines at all?

Convergence Problem Resolved [In reply to] Can't Post

Update to my convergence issues. Well as my last post explained I was very frustrated the night I installed the new board. Well, I gave up that night and started again the next evening. I started over and found out I had switched the blue and the green wire connecting to the new board (hence why I couldn't adjust the lines in the convergence menu). After realizing the dumb mistake I began the long process of manually adjusting. It took a little while to understand exactly what the manual was telling you to do and how you are suppose to adjust convergence correctly. After about 45 minutes of manipulating the grids the picture was back to 'normal' again!! Maybe I was just use to watching the TV with the 3-D effect but it seems like the picture is better than I ever remember.

THANKS A LOT TO EVERYONE WHO HAS RESPONDED TO THIS PROBLEM! Thanks again for posting the manual as well, greatly appreciated!! I couldn't have done this without your help!

AKAI Convergence Problem [In reply to] Can't Post

I think I too am having a convergence problem. I have a 4 year old AKAI PT5598HDI with the bow-tie image. ( http://byon.com/akai1.jpg ). I ordered 2 STK392-040 from http://www.slelectronics.net/, and installed them, and get the same issue. In fact, I get the same image even with the board removed, so I do think something on the board is at fault. I checked the large resistors and all looked fine visually. They were marked 150 ohm, and there were all as 2 in parallel, and they each measures 75 ohms, which is correct. I couldn't find any pico fuses on the board to replace, perhaps someone else can point them out to me. http://www.byon.com/akai4.jpg . If not, I guess my next plan is to get a replacement BP41-00045B board. Thanks for any suggestions.

Further Update. The power connector on the board is labeled "-20V GND GND +20V". I'm getting 20V, but not the -20V. Are the pico fuses located on the main power supply board perhaps?

Re: [Guest] Samsung 42" Convergence problem [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi,
I have a Samsung 47" RP TV Model # HCL 4715W. Most of the convergence issues I've seen discussed involve lots of layering of the colors and bowing etc., but I've seen a few w/ my issue, primarily the blue/white ghosting of lighter images onto darker images, from left to right for me. Also, seemingly less resolution quality, like faint lines in the resolution that didn't used to be there.

Will replacing the convergence board or whatever fix my problem too?

If so, I'm not sure whether I should replace whole board, or just the ICs or whatever I keep seeing people reference. I'm mechanically inclined and have even done some sodering in my day, just haven't worked on my own tv before.

If someone could confirm my fix and recap my best process, I'd appreciate it. Thanks a bunch, it seems many people have been very happy / grateful for the help they received here, so it encouraged me to post.

Thanks again,

Karz

Mike, you seem to have the most experience and knowledge, thank you for sharing it with the rest of us. Here is my dilemna. I have a Akai PT4298 with what i think is a convergence problem. There is a blue outline more significantly out of alignment in the lower right hand corner, but prevalent throughout the entire screen.

Reviewing the service manuel (thanks takeitapart) shows how to tune in the red, green and blue, as well as beam alignment using the Mute 183, and 182 respectively.

Based on only the blue needing fixing, should I do the convergence adjustment, or should I do a board replacement?

Mahalo for any advice,

Aloha,

Russell

P.S. I'm so glad to have found this site with the helpful information, as there are few TV repairmen where I live and they usually charge almost the same price of a new better TV. If I can fix it for about $100, I'd save about $900. Cool

Re: [Kamuela] Samsung 42" Convergence problem [In reply to] Can't Post

Update to my previous post...I went into the convergence adjustment using Mute 183 and all the patterns looked good in red, green and blue so i didn't need to make any adjustments. I did the last step to an auto focus in this mode and thats all my TV needed. So not only saved $900 for repair, but also $100 to replace the board. So anyone having this problem try this first.

Mahalo again.

Let me ask you this question, If you car has a flat tire what do you do? #1 ripp the trany out and have it rebuilt? #2 Get a laptop computer and reprogram the electronic brain for the engine? #3Fix the damm tire. See even thogh that seems to be a easy question when it comes to Tv's most peoplle will try #1 and #2 before even doing #3. The set simply has a defective convergance Amp and or supporting componets, luckly these are all on a convergance board ( BP94-00155a ) and is easly replaced by a simple unplug and change. But if you did the old #2 before this all the values will have to be rewritten to the e-prom, but luckly most people do not know how to save these values when they go screwing around in the service menu so you may be ok. Replace the board (BP94-00155a avalible at www.vancebaldwin.com for about $80.00)

Mike, Thanks for the response. I will follow your advice and order the replacement board. I think a better analogy would be, what to do about fixing the tire based on the problem. Do I need to just put in air, patch the hole, or replace the whole tire, rim, all four tires? I was asking for your expertise based on describing the symptoms, and you have provided your advice to which I will follow. Mahalo.

Hey Mike,

I double checked my TV to make sure I order the right parts and found:

1. My model is an AKAI PT4799HD, good thing I checked.
2. What I think are the Boards with the IC's is does not have any wires connected to them. Also, I could not find the retaining screw. See Attached Pics.

Am I looking at the right parts?
Thanks again for your help.

well gave you some bad advise the first time, looks like you have the on board convergance Ic's and the convergance module will not work, what you will have to do is replace the STK392-150's on that board you have pix of, thats a little more involved
