Re: [mikemaiertv] Samsung 42" Convergence problem [In reply to] Can't Post

mike,
your advice was good, i have a different model than what was originally stated. others have replace the ICs, but it requires unsoldering and resoldering which is more than an unplug and replug type that i'm more capable of doing. the picture is actually adjusted from doing a self focus in the mute 183 service mode, but does not complete, probably because a bad IC. i'm guessing thats why the self focus cannot cycle thru and thus the check factory data message. i'm happy with the picture and can live without self focus, since i can enter the service mode and do a partial. is it ok to continue doing this, or will it cause futher damage?

again thanks for your advice. its really appreciated.

mahalo,

russell

try going to view all post then scroll back to takeitpart's post on Oct 27, 2006 to see copy. be careful, write down existing setting before changing anything, so you can at least get things back if things should get worst.

Re: [Kamuela] Samsung 42" Convergence problem [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi Mike (and everyone else!)
I am born and raised in Spokane, but currently living in North Carolina. Miss it up there so much.
Anyway, I had a convergence issue with my Samsung 42HD43A (freebie that came when I bought my doublewide). My hubby and I did a lot of research, found step by step instructions on how to change the ic's and did so this past weekend. Before the change, we got sound and ghostly pictures on the tv. After the change, the power button lit up, but nothing else. Black screen, no sound.
By chance I found a post you had written to someone else here, instructing them to unplug the power (left-most - is that a word? plug from the convergence board. If the tv came on, then the problem was with the board still. I did it, the tv came back on.) We think one of the solder points got messed up and tore a bit of the circuit tape off the board on our repair job, thus disrupting the power flow.
Soooo......I am in search of a new convergence board. I found one on ebay, says it's brand new, genuine Samsung.
Does it sound like I'm on the right track here? Please, any advice that might save us several hundred dollars is much appreciated.
Thanks Mike!

Re: [mikemaiertv] Samsung 42" Convergence problem [In reply to] Can't Post

Hello All, and specifically Mike...
Thanks for the advice! I replaced the convergence unit for my Samsung TV which resolved the main issue of the convergence not being aligned and not being able to adjust it.

However, I still have a minor bow tie effect (I.E. half inch on top and bottom) and the cross hairs for the left and right side are only 1/4 visible.

Is there something else I should look at, or did I get a bad replacement unit?

Re: [takeitapartnow] Samsung 42" Convergence problem [In reply to] Can't Post

After searching for and downloading your samsung service manual "4226samsung.pdf". I found my tv is an older model HCP4752W, and the remote is different. All of the keys/buttons worked correctly. I finally found the"Add/Delete" which is the Convergence SAVE Button under the sliding cover on the remote's lower front cover.
The convergence procedure is very simple. For anyone who can't find the manual here is BASIC info.
1) Press Mute 1,8,3
2) Select the screen AREA you want to align by moving the bright blocks.
3) Select the COLOR you want to change 7=Red, 8=Green, 9=Blue.
4) Move the selected color Horizontal lines with the "Channel" Up/Down.
5) Move the selected color Vertical lines with the "Volume" Up/Down.
6) Finally SAVE the data with Add/Erase or Add/Delete Button. (You will see a "Data Saved" message on the screen).
7) Press the S.Mode Button to return to TV Mode.

Hope this might help someone!!

well got my new board from http://www.samsungparts.com/part_detail.asp?catalog%5Fname=Parts+and+Accessories&category%5Fname=&product%5Fid=AA95%2D01846D&cookie%5Ftest=1
$150 shipped to Canada. After spendinga bit of time adjusting the convergence with the new board its working great again !Probably wouldn't of had to do this step if i hadn't messed around with the convergence before ?

Re: [Guest] Samsung 42" Convergence problem [In reply to] Can't Post

I have a hcn4226w, The unit powers on and off, the pink power light flashes on and off, no picture, but sound ..... the unit dose this till it is unplugged. I have been searching all the internet stuff on the repair. tested the convergance board by unplugging the "correct" wire ( no differance) ordered and changed the entire convergance assembly anyway.
The unit still acts the same. (power cycles on and off) Has anyone had the same problem ? what was the fix ? the pcb board is costly to "just change out" I believe this symtom ( on and off power) is a built in safety, or error code of sum sort.

iskor if your remote is the same as mine, the SAVE button is the "Add/Delete" button that is UNDER the sliding cover. Pull down on the lower part of the remote to see the hidden buttons. Hope this helps!!

Re: [fwalker] Samsung 42" Convergence problem [In reply to] Can't Post

Nothing slides on my controller. There isn't an add/erase button. I just bought a replacement remote for my pcj534rf and it does have a sliding cover, but it too is missing the add/erase button. Are there any alternate buttons to press that will save my settings?

Thanks for responding, your help is much appreciated.

Re: [iskor12] Samsung 42" Convergence problem [In reply to] Can't Post

Sorry, about the only thing I can suggest is to try all the keys/buttons until you see "data saved" message on the screen. You could also try downloading the samsung "4226samsung.pdf" schematic that "takeitapartnow" has uploaded as an attachment in an earlier post here. Even though the remote shown in this schematic is different I was able to find (after much trial and error) which buttons to press for each function.
However, I don't think that a generic remote is going to work correctly. Sorry, I can't help more.
Frank
