Samsung 55" Wide Rear Projection problem w/ pic

My 55" wide has developed what can only be described as blue splotches or noise on the left side of the screen. They are usually blue unless the actual picture is blue then they are orange or red. It started out infrequent and small but over the past couple months have become common and larger. More alarmingly they have started to appear on the right side of the screen as well, again infrequent and small. The TV is 7 years old and is left on alot, primarily by my girlfriend who has to sleep with the TV on against my wishes. I happened to snap a pic of the problem when it was at its worst. It is not usually this bad, I just got lucky or unlucky depending on how you look at it. I know absolutely jack about TV tech and want to know whats causing it and how much its going to set me back.
