Re: [Guest] Zenith 44" Rear-Projection LCD TV E44W46LCD [In reply to] Can't Post

First off this entire thread has been awesome, only info out there on this set. Many thanks!

Anyway....I just got this Zenith from BB last night ($1999 on sale) and I'm just so very disappointed with how SD (digital cable) looks on it. I mean is this just how it is with any LCD or DLP set? Or maybe I'm doing something wrong.

I have S-Video running from the cable (non-HD), to the turner (Onkyo) and then to the TV. Cables are all Pheonix Gold. I tried some of the suggested settings on this board but no change really. The picture is just really granular and not clear at all. They were clear on my Sony 32" tube set. I did notice some channels not "as bad" as others, but they are all pretty poor IMO. Animated shows (south park etc) look HORRIBLE. Nothing you can really do about this??

BB has a deal with Cox cable here in SoCal so I'm going back today to order HDTV from them (install is waved and something like $10/mo for all HD stations). But the HD stations are so few though if the SD picture is going to always just be like this I'm almost having a hard time justifying my purchase since it's mostly used to watch SD with some DVD thrown in there.

DVD's via Component on the other hand look crisp and clear. I've never had a wide screen TV before so maybe I'm being just a n00b but I kinda thought that DVD titles would take up the entire screen and not have the black band over the top and bottom (without using the Zoom feature which really degrades your picture). Isn't that the point of a widescreen TV? Maybe not.

Any thoughts are greatly appreciated!

Make sure the DVD player is set up for a widescreen TV, otherwise you will get the black bands that you describe.

I'm very interested in purchasing this TV - thanks for all the great info everyone. Can someone from BB give me an idea of how often certain deals come up. They just sprung the online $1899 price on us today for today and tomorrow only. i'm aware that the stores occasionally offer a free game system or speaker set or DVD player and occassionally i'll recieve a '10% off everything' certificate in the mail. is there any rhyme or reason to these offers? Should i wait a month and see if they do better? Would waiting til X-mas be the best idea? Thank you in advance.

Like many others, I'd like to say thanks for this forum and to all those who have posted this valuable information. I just can't buy an item like this without some research, and this is really the only source I have found. So, Thanks.

Well, I purchased this TV a couple of weeks ago, and (aside from the shock of parting with so much $) have been very happy with it so far. I am no audio/video expert, and I won't bore you with details which other's have already mentioned, but this is my setup and I'm happy to answer any questions.

We run all our audio/video through our Onkyo 5.1 receiver. Our primary viewing source is DirectTV satellite. We have not yet, however, purchased an HD satellite receiver. Mostly because there really are only a few HD channels so far. Our satellite receiver's best video output is S-Video. We receive our local channels through satellite also, which have the worst picture quality of all the sources we watch (probably similar to our old 27" Mitsubishi TV, but magnified up to 44"). The rest of the satellite channels are somewhere between this and a significantly better picture quality. We currently have a Non-progressive scan Sony DVD player, using optical audio outputs and component video outputs. Watching DVD's has really become awesome. The widescreen and picture quality is so nice! Can't wait for progressive scan with DVI output! Anyway, depending on your critical eye, IMO this is a very worthwhile purchase.

Also, even better, I went to BB today with this week's ad and got $300 off of our purchase due to the current $1999 sale price. Yaaaaahhhhoooooo! Gotta love that! So, anyone else out there who purchased this TV in the last 30 days should go back with your receipt and get some $$!

You might want to try connecting with coax to the TV to see if that is any better. Mine is better with coax. Though the svideo cable that I was using was crap. I just ordered some quality cables (bluejeanscables.com) to see if better svideo will help.

Hey klausbird, hurry up and go back. The web has an $1899 deal through today. I have already received $400+tax back from my original purchase.

As far as picture is concerned, I have terrible picture on SD channels through the DVI input from my Comcast PVR box. I had to hook up coaxial, but will be switching to compnent for the SD. I just wish there were one or two more component inputs on the tv itself. I currently have both XBox and PS2 hooked up using component and they both look awesome. I have seen no problems with XBox, but I only play sports games on it.

I am currently looking for a decent DVD player with a DVI output, but I think it would be better to wait until next month or so. I hear there will be a few nice models with DVI coming out.

Thanks for that reply, but my local BB store said they do not price match the website's prices. Did you purchase the TV in a store or on the web? Is there something else I should know to get that price?

Thanks

Not matching the online price seems a little short-sighted since you can always just return your original set and order it online with free shipping. It may not be worth it for $100, but it certainly would be for $300 or $400.

I'm planning on going down to the store today to see what they can do.

You're right. I ended up speaking to the store manager, who had no problem with matching the price. They did tell me that this would be the last price match I could get since I had come in once before and price matched the $1999 price. Anyway, now I'm even happier with the TV after saving $420.

Thanks for the tip!

Zenith 44" $1,899.00!!! [In reply to] Can't Post

Has anyone used this set with component cables on the xbox?

Has anyone used this set as a monitor for their computer?

I saw the sale yesterday at BB.com for 1899.00, looked today and it is at 1999.00. Anyone know if there are two different sales, or am I just a day late? Wink

Love this string, has been so helpful. Blush

Re: [Guest] Zenith 44" $1,899.00!!! [In reply to] Can't Post

great thread!

I bought my Zenith two weeks for $2299.00 and wish i read this topic first. I didnt receive any free deals along with the purchase not even a gift certificate.

for the past two days ive been trying to get a price match at BB and have not succeeded. the staff at BB had me running going back and fourth..."we will price match" ....get there with my receipt just to be turned down by the manager of the store who, could find the ad in there own website. its apparent to me that i need to return the Z and go to a different BB when i purchase online. too late for the $400 saving but hopefully i can still make the $300 saving. any suggestions as to what BB store i should deal with in my area? in live in Los Angeles/Hollywood area.

has anybody seen the new Zenith 42" plasm? What awesome picture!!! for $200 more..hmm gots me thinking! drawback, there's a waiting list and its EDTV. sitting on the shelf between a panasonic plasm, Sony plsm and Max..something or other, the Zenith really caught my eyes. woot!! thmbs up Zenith!

btw ..im not a hater especially towards bb's staff but i do feel there policy on this price match issue is a bit ridiculous. I know the online store is a different part of BB but still own by the main bb in turn should honor their price match policy. instead, now i have to box up my tv, take it to bb and get a refund then purchase online, go back to bb to pick a brand new set while bb store is left with an open box unit. WTF is that all about!!. Like I said, no hate towards the staffs at bb just the corp policies.

I went down expecting them to not match the online price and thus being virtually forced to return the set and buy it online that night. I was pleasantly surprised that everyone I dealt with seemed very reasonable and I didn't even have to explain to them the stupidity of forcing me to return the set to get the discount.

It did take a while to straighten out all the paperwork (because the original sales guy was painfully computer illiterate and screwed things up), but for over $300 difference I was happy to wait.

I first noticed that they dropped the price to $1999 on bestbuy.com on Monday. By the time I went to get the price match on Wednesday it had dropped to $1899 and it was explicitly stated that this was an online offer only. The $1899 price was only good for Wed. and Thu., so you are out of luck. Now they are back to the $1999 rate. Although they didn't seem to ever update the price in the store.

Maybe you should hate towards the staff just a little bit, since the managers do apparently have some flexibility to give you the price match. They did mine and klaus', at least.

If they had forced me to box up my old set (which would be inefficient for everybody) they would have lost me as a future customer. I don't like having to deal with morons (which is why I only buy something at Fry's when I know I would never think of returning it).

really! its the store manager's decision to allow the price match. why wouldnt he/she allow it? that would mean forcing the customer to return there tv. why would they want that?

also, there is a thirty day return policy..correct? is there any restocking fee? and what about service plan ..will they reimburst that as well?

thanks

There is a 30 day return policy and no restocking fees on TVs. They should also refund the service plan.

Best Buy has really gone down hill in the last couple years. I bought the TV with a 10% off coupon so I'd only be saving $70 with the price match. I thought I'd stop buy anyway since it was near my work. After the customer service person went and talked to the manager she said that because I bought it with a coupon I couldn't get a price match. I said that was foolish as I could just return the TV. Then she said that to get the 1999 price I'd have to fill out rebates which "didn't always work". Nice response! I don't plan on buying anything else from them.

Re: [Guest] Zenith 44" Rear-Projection LCD TV E44W46LCD [In reply to] Can't Post

I was able to get a price match 3 diffreent times. They tried to tell me that they do not match their online prices, but I told them that the policy should only be effective if it was a competitors onlince price. If they were not going to match their own price then they would be hypocrites with their 30-day price match guarantee. I bought the set for $2299, then I got a price match at $2184 (online price). Then a week later I got another price match for $1999 (online price) and 2 days later I got the third price match at $1899 (online price). They told me that I could get as many price matches as I'd wanted within the 30 days.

I guess it depends on your attitude and whether or not you're wiling to back down when they tell you that yuou can not receive the price match. You have to ask them how they can't honor their own prices, online or not. I would have returned mine, even if for measly $100 just to throw it in their faces and get a new tv out of it for less money. All online shipping is free and the store I bought it from didn't have it in stock and charged me a delivery fee. So, in hindsight, purchasing online would have cost me even less money.

Either way, the set is great. I use it for Digital Cable, HDTV, PVR, PS2, XBox and my PC monitor. Couldn't have asked for a more versatile set. The picture is magnificent. I would suggest using the component cables if you do not need the two inputs for something else. The DVI is great, but I'm not too sure I can tell the difference between the two as far as HDTV is concerned. The SD channels do come in fuzzier whenusing the DVI cable becomes it is always going to upconvert the signal to 720p. Then again, I might just be used to the HDsignals that everything else now seems to look bad. Not that it's a bad thing.Wink

Hey guys; I purchased this TV on Wednesday of this week on sale for $1,800.00 on the BB website and the store matched the price. The real reason I purchased it was because it was perfect for my TV cab exactly 40" wide not to mention the super picture and the DVI connection. No Green Hue; perfect picture! BUT there's a problem with SA Exployer 3250HD converter box from TimeWarner and the TV. The DVI cable drops it's connection everytime I turn the TV off. Zenith blames the box and the Cable company blames the TV... This really sux... I have to re-boot the box everytime I want to watch HDTV. I'm thinking about taking the TV back. Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated.

If you like the TV maybe you should reconsider your source provider. I would probably drop the SA cable box (from about a five foot height). That should elliminate any further issues with it.

I am on my second TV now. The first one had a little bit of a green hue, but the reason I returned it is that the sound would drop occasionally while watching standard cable. The second TV does not have the green hue, but does have a bit of a vertical banding issue. Someone in an earlier post mentioned that a service technician was able to adjust the vertical banding using the service menus. I know how to get into the service menu, but have no idea what to adjust. Does anyone know how I can reduce the vertical banding?

Re: [Guest] Zenith 44" Rear-Projection LCD TV E44W46LCD [In reply to] Can't Post

I sure could use some help. I'm fairly new to HD, HD Projection TV's and HD Satellite. I recently purchased the Zenith E44W46LCD from BB for $1899 and set it up and all is well. I have DirecTV and ordered HD receiver/service and the Tech installed a Samsung SIR-TS 360 and hooked it up to the E44W46LCD via component cables and it looks great. The SIR-TS 360 came with a DVI cable and here is where I'm having a problem.

When I attached the DVI cable to the 360 and the E44W46LCD and switch the E44W46LCD to DVI input I get a “No Signal” message. The audio comes through just fine. I’m not sure what I’m doing or missing in a setup that would allow the signal to pass from the 360 to the E44W46LCD? I’m using the DVI cable that was supplied with the 360. Any help or direction would be outstanding. The HD picture via component cables is truly wonderful, just would like to use DVI input and frustrated that I can’t figure out the issue.

Thanks

Danny
