If the Zeith 44 LCD, Model: E44W46LCD, will fit in your ent. center then so will the LG 44 DLP. (Model: RU-44SZ51D)

I am actually returning my Zenith 44 today and picking up the LG. My Zenith went on the fritz after only 4 days.

BTW -- Zenith is actually owned by LG.

Thanks, but it is too wide. The LG is a couple of inches wider than the Zenith and almost as wide as the Samsung 46 inch DLP which uses the newer HD2+ chipset.

In Reply To

Sorry, the current Samsung 46 uses HD3 chip, not HD2+.

Re: [Bill H.] Zenith 44" Rear-Projection LCD TV E44W46LCD [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi Bill,

I was pleased with the set, especially watching DVDs and HDTV broadcasts. Crystal clear with vibrant color. My only gripe before this was the SD effect while watching regular tv, most noticable during dark senes.

Marty,

I have adjusted all my inputs to the same settings and they are "sticking". The green and red spots seem to disappear by switching to another input(even one not in use) then switching back. Almost as if the picture resets.

I'll keep everyone advised after the svc call.

Just checked out this set @ BB -- the VB was *very* noticable to me. It is most obvious on any light colored background that is fairly solid in color ... every 1/2" or so there is a thin vertical strip of pixels that is a little lighter in color than the rest of the background color.

Does anyone know what causes this? Is it always there or can you play with the set's configuration to get rid of them.

Other than that, I like the set -- but I cannot justify paying 2 grand for a set that has a problem as noticable as this one.

Does anyone know if I can display two DTV HD channels on the PIP feature? The directions re: inputs for PIP are spotty. Thanks.

The saga of the monster cables goes on.....After Cox told me their service guy would supply all the cables I needed, I returned my 300 dollar monsters to BB. The clerk was very agitated and said that Cox would supply inferior cables and charge me for them.....Another call to Cox and I was told again that they supple top grade cables at no cost....My set will be delivered within the hour and Cox will be in tomorrow to hook me in to HDTV and digital cable. I'll ket you all know how it plays out..

And now another question. BB gave us a free XBox as some sort of promotion and of course my grandkids are delighted, but in reading the instructions for my Zenith LCD, there was a warning that using the set for XBox and other video games could harm the screen. Anyone know anything about this?

I hope BB and Zenith appreciate this forum. I would guess they have sold many sets because of the information here.

Actually, LCD RP like the Zenith are better for Xbox playing because of the problem with burn-in. Burn in is when you display the same image on the screen for so long that you can actually see it on the screen when you turn it off... I know I am aging myself, but if you remember going to the Dept store, you can see the TV's that had Pong hooked up to them because you see the paddles and the mid line on the screen.

The only danger with video games with LCD's are stuck pixels, which for the most part, repairs itself...

General rule of thumb, dont leave it on when no-one is using it and try to keep the Brightness as low as possible.

Re: Zenith 44" Rear-Projection LCD TV E44W46LCD [In reply to] Can't Post

I just recently bought this model myself and am seeing all the anomalies that others are seeing. The vertical lines on large bright color fields. The greenish cast in darker grays (just watch something in black & white). Black comes out as a deep blue or deep purple (you see this especially when you watch a DVD movie in the dark, with a 2.35 aspect ration and the TV set to 16:9 - the bars above and below are bluish).

Now, I like the set and have been impressed by some of the things I’ve played through it (“Finding Nemo” DVD, progressive scan w/ component hookup, looks great on it!), but these problems are making me re-think my purchase... So today, to rule out that this is just a problem with my individual set only, I went back to Best Buy to look at the floor model they have. There it was, beautiful HD image, nice colors and... dark blue instead of black and the vertical lines were there. Now the interesting thing is they had a couple other LCD projection TVs too (Panasonic and Mitsubishi, I think) and I noticed that they also display dark blues instead of black and they also have the vertical lines running through large color fields. After noticing that, it became easy to tell which TVs on display were DLP projections and which were LCD – just wait for the image to go black and see the blue cast or look in the bright areas for the vertical lines. All the LCD projections seemed to have it to a greater or lesser degree. It’s just more noticeable on the Zenith. So, unless I am convinced or told or see otherwise, I’m beginning to think that these problems are just endemic of current LCD projection technology.

I want to be happy about my $2700 purchase (inc. extended warranty and taxes and etc.), but… I see these problems all the time now when watching my TV – well OK, not all the time, but you know what I mean. It’s just enough of a distraction that it always makes me start doubting my decision to plunk down $2700 for it in the first place and whether I need to get something different…

Re: [mdw] Zenith 44" Rear-Projection LCD TV E44W46LCD [In reply to] Can't Post

I've had this set for several weeks.
I agree the black levels are a problem if you like a totally dark room. A little light in the viewing room does the trick for me. Only real concern is the vertical lines. I also went back to BB (and CC) to take another look at the competition. Wow. Now I see these vertical lines in the other LCDs. To be fair, the the Sony GWII wasn't as bad but they are definitely there.
Other than the VB I have absolutely no complaints with this set, so I'm keeping mine. Besides, the DLP rainbows (or whatever) make me seasick. I have enough stress in my life...

I bought my set 4 days before BestBuy started this free XBox promo...
I called Cust Service and they said they would not honor the promo...
has anybody had any luck with getting a promo item honored retroactive to your purchase date?
i appreciate your suggestions...

My set was delivered yesterday...cable guy came this morning and hooked us up but with some unresolved issues......I can't use the PIP while in the digital mode......some of the digital channels have black border, some do not..he said they would bring a newer model cable box to solve that problem.....and I remember in one the posts on this set reading about the screen door effect. Some of my channels have it pretty bad. Did anyone talk about any settings to tweek a little to help with this SD problem? Otherwise the set works great after 24 hours and the free cables from Cox seem to do the job....

Yes I went back showed them my receipt and the guy at the customer service said that since Ihad purchased my set was on sale they would not honor their current Xbox offer. I then went to another BB location and presented the clerk my receipt and ask that they match their current offer after the clerk had a talk with the manager they said go pick up your Xbox.

Well I had my service call on Friday. Of course the unit looked great for the 30 minutes that the tech was here. Without seeing the problem he was unsure but felt that it could be similar to stuck pixels. Anyway BB is bringing a new unit to exchange tomorrow.

I looked at this set at BestBuy the other day and was really impressed. I cannot make my mind up between this set or the Toshiba 51H84. Why should and shouldn't I buy this tv??? I am worried about buying zenith because their quality has really went downhill in the last 10 years. All opinions will be appreciated.[shocked]

I got this TV at the employee price and it is awesome. DVD looks awesome through component on my Zenith DVB318 (after THX optimization) and HD looks great through HD DVR cable box. XBox looks great on some games and okay on others. Madden '05 looks sweet on replays and everything other than actual gameplay, which is still decent. I dont really have many complaints other than the few XBox games that could look a little bit better. Halo was surprisingly enjoyable and I have not had one bit of lag yet.

Are you a bestbuy employee? How much was the tv at cost? I talked to a guy I know the other day that works at the bb here where I live and he said he couldn't buy the tv at discount because he had already purchased a tv. Do you know how I can get the best deal that I can on this tv?

The players are a bit pixelated but it is also the same way with my 27" Toshiba so I think it is just the graphics of that particular game or something. It is probably also because it is I am comparing it to ESPN '05 which is 720p, whereas Madden is 420p.
