Yes I went back showed them my receipt and the guy at the customer service said that since Ihad purchased my set was on sale they would not honor their current Xbox offer. I then went to another BB location and presented the clerk my receipt and ask that they match their current offer after the clerk had a talk with the manager they said go pick up your Xbox.

Are all Best Buy's offering the free X-box?? I bought this set around August 1st.

BTW, It's been really great. I do wish the blacks were a little blacker though. My wife has fallen in love with the Olympics in HD.

I found the user's manual for this set on the LG web site. Go to http://us.lgservice.com/ and click Owner's Manual, and then Projection TV. The 4th one on the list is the Zenith TV set.

Like many other people, I am currently debating between the Zenith LCD and higher priced DLP models. After comparing models at BB, the colors on the Zenith seemed to be slightly "off". Is this an issue easily corrected with calibration, is it something to live with when buying this model, or is it unnoticeable when it is the only monitor in the room?

Also, I have not been able to view SD on the Zenith, which will be my most common content. I would appreciate any info from people viewing SD (digital cable, network programs) on this monitor.

Thanks for the help.

I am an employee of best buy and just thought i'd through a couple of cents in. I've had lots of time to play with the LCD vs. the DLP's and there is definitly pro's and con's to each. While DLP's do have deeper black levels, there are some negatives. First of all i've noticed many problems with last years samsung dlp model, but not as many problems in this years, but they are still there. There is also the famous rainbow effect. But one thing that i dont like is that the dlp's look too digital somtimes (esp with a dvi player). You will esp notice it in blurry backrounds. I would suggest always using component cables. As far as LCD goes, the sony is the top dog, but everyone knows about the lack of news bulbs. Besides the black levels, i would have to say the sony matches the dlp's in HDTV picture quality, but the sony actually looks better in SDTV and DVD. DVD looks better b/c dvd resolution runs at 720x480 and the sony runs at 1386 X 788. If you double the 720 it equals 1420 which is closer to the sony's resolution(1386) than dlp's(1280). But as far as the zenith goes, i think it is the great set for the money. Although the picture does push toward the green end, i still plan to buy it. It's the best deal u can find for the money right now.

Also, If you have the zenith, put in the Shrek DVD (or any digital movie, i.e. finding nemo), it looks amazing.

Thanks for the info above from the best buy worker, but i have some questions about it...

-Im thinking about buying last years samsung dlp and was wondering what the problems were with it?
-What do you mean when you say that dlps look 'to digital' sometimes...
-Why do you recommend component cables over a dvi cord, i thought dvi would be the best especially with like a dvd player...

Thats about it though, id really appreciate some answers because now im back to stage one and thinking about buying this zenith again...

Just to confirm . The BestBuy Employee cost is indeed $ 1425.00 which is cost plus 5% . Also FYI the Smasung DLP4663 Employee cost is $2261.00 again, which is cost plus 5%.

Looked at 6 of these is different locations all have screendoor effect - prob due to a larger (cheaper) pixel size .The black's are acceptable.Picture is sharper then the DLP sets. It's a no brainer if you can get them anywhere close to employee cost . The TV is still not totaly burn in proof , but normal use should be ok as a computer monitor.

Buy the extended warr.Worth every penny since Best Buy has the most lax return policies and will hassle you the least.

I am trying to decide if the screen door thing is going to bother me in the future or not, that's the only thing holding me back.I will prob. by the darn thing anyway. Will post on actual $'s when I buy it .

For those of us who cannot get the employee discount I still find this to be a very good deal. As previous posters have mentioned BB is always running some deal with this Zenith LCD. I went to 2 different BB also CC and HH Gregg. I was most impressed by the latest generation of Samsung DLP's. But, for the money ($800 difference) I found this set to be a better value. I was looking at BB online and saw they were giving away a Gateway 5.1 surround system with any large screen set. When I went to my local BB to look again I mentioned this online only deal. The manager told me to pick out a comperable set (400watt 5.1 surround) and he would throw it in. He made good on his promise and I walked out with the Z, a beautiful 3 tiered stand, all cables, and a pioneer 5.1 surround with prog scan dvd and vhs hi-fi built in all for 2900 out the door. After reading these posts i believe I will take the 4 yr warranty also.

thanks for all the advice. I will post further when the set is delivered and I screw up the settings lol.

Re: [Guest] Zenith 44" Rear-Projection LCD TV E44W46LCD [In reply to] Can't Post

I would like some help on this new Zenith LCD projection TV. I have owned mine for about a month. I put it thru all kinds of tests when I got it. Mainly regarding pixelization issues. Primariy on dark shadowy scenes when pixelization is the worst. It passed all tests with flying colors. But now it is starting to show a lot of pixelization on many scenes. The same ones that I tested it with. It does this on both cable and DVD's so I can rule out the cable signal. Anybody heard of this, and any possible diagnosis?

Thanks,

Jim

First off I'd like to thank everyone that has posted comments here. It has helped make my decision, plus for the cost this TV is a good buy.
I've had mine for 1 day now...I also got the DirecTV HD DVR (nice HD receiver with Tivo - but the software for the guide is really slow plus it was expensive - $1000). The HD programs look GREAT on the Zenith!!! All other channels are just so...so. I agree with all the above comments on pixelization. The shadows are the worst - plus some shows are pretty blurry...and that still is after trying to make adjustments. I also watched a DVD last night...wasn't all that impressed. The picture was somewhere inbetween HD and regular TV. I am also using the DVI-DTV connection. Is this the best connection? Has anyone tested different connections to see which one has the best picture on regular TV?
Overall - I'm pretty happy with my purchase - I really like the size of the screen and the small frame - plus the HD quality!!!

Re: [Guest] Zenith 44" Rear-Projection LCD TV E44W46LCD [In reply to] Can't Post

Thank you *very* much to everyone for the great insights...I just purchased this TV last week at BB, and have been VERY happy with DVD input via component cables (I got the "free" Gateway home theatre with purchase and it doesn't have DVI)...Here's my question I hope s.o. can help with? I have DishNetwork, non-HD receiver with s-video output.

A) Dish network is telling me that as a current customer, if I want HD, I have to BUY the HD receiver + pay $10/month for 4 channels. Monthly fee, fine. But $400+ for HD receiver is ridiculous, when a new customer can get it or rent it for $5/mo. Would an HD receiver improve non-HD programming, b/c of the component vs. s-video outputs? I was watching the Olympics last night and was appalled by how pixelly action sequences are!

B) Neophyte home theatre question: I cannot output from the TV via the variable audio jacks, to the home theatre??? I have to go directly from dish receiver, and the volume lows aren't quite low enough. Is this the only way to go?

Thanks.

Time Warner says that their HD box would not improve non-HD channels. I would guess the same would hold for your box. I am able to go from the audio output jacks from my TV to my tuner/amp. I think you might check the audio menu to make sure you have the external speaker option selected.

Dish has some deals on the 811 receiver for existing subs. I got one for $149 plus a one year commitment. Check out some of the discussions at dbstalk.com

Just got mine delivered ... am using the new Digeo Moxi HD Tuner/HD DVR from Adelphia cable via component in and have my 15" Apple PowerBook Al hooked in via the DVI connector just to see how it looks.

HD Olympics look amazing at 9 feet ... almost no pixelization noticeable even from my overly critical eyes. However, at 3 feet, pixelization and screen door effect are noticeable (but who really needs to sit that close).

I have tried to hook up many of my computers to televisions over the years and have always been sorely disappointed with the results. However, the DVI out in the PowerBook makes this tv actually quite useable as a monitor. Although the technology is not quite there yet for full time use as a computer monitor, it finally falls in to the "acceptable" category. (I'll post a picture if anyone wants to see how it looks).

Am going to hook up the free Gateway DVD/surround system now ...

PS - has anyone figured out how to get into the "tech" menus on this thing yet??? Especially the menus that show you what type of signal the tv is receiving?

Thanks for all of the info guys ... just got mine delivered today and set up looking just right. After playing with the buttons for a while I finally found out how to access the service menu. BEWARE!!!! Playing with the service menu controls could seriously scre up your box!!!! With that said:

SERVICE MENU ACCESS - Hold down the menu button on the tv and on the remote simultaneously for five seconds and the service menu will pop up.

Let me know if anyone tweaks their Z using the menu and how it works out :-)

I have also attached an image of the Z as a computer monitor (this is not my final setup, just checking out how everything works).

Just thought id add that i know some were saying that the x-box doesnt look great on this tv but i just got done testing it out on best buy and i thought it looked just as good as last years sammy dlp. Im still leaning towards not getting the z because of the black issues when watching darker movies...

thanks for the information about using this TV as a monitor. I have been reading this thread so some time looking for that type of information. I have several questions. You said that the technology is not quite there yet, what are the unresolved issues? How far away is something like this thread readable from the tv? How are you planning to finally set this up? I was thinking about buying a desktop with a wireless mouse and keyboard, but I am concerned because all the keyboards say they work up to 6 feet, which is not far enough. If anyone has experience using this tv as a monitor, please provide some feedback.

Don't get me wrong, it is very useable. However, i want it to look as good as it does on my 23" Cinema Display. To do that, Zenith would need to double the resolution on the tv to make it comparable to a professional computer monitor. At present, they could do it, but cost is prohibitive. For the average user, the Z is just fine. Actually, it looks remarkably good when using it PIP in split screen. I have attached a better photo of the screen that more accurately shows how it looks.

I've had this set for several months now. TV looks great with ESPNHD and other HD channels. I haven't noticed the lag as bad as the 50" LCD Panny. Pretty good for PDVD. SD is as expected. And let's face it, this TV is inexpensive. Hard to argue with the value. Only real complaint is XBox. I suffer similar problems as one's already mentioned. Many jagged edges. Messing with the settings seemed to help. Thanks to person who provided the original tip.

Contrast: 50
Bright: 75
Color: 65
Sharp: 35

Anyone figure out how to save custom picture settings through the service menu available via (menu on remote + menu on TV + 5 secs)? If so, email me at badbobbyt@yahoo.com.

Thanks.

I for one appreciate all the reviews on this TV -- both good and bad. I'm torn as to whether or not to buy it (football season is right around the corner), and this feedback is invaluable.

Has anybody watched HD sports (i.e., ESPNHD) on this TV yet? I've noticed some artifacting on other LCDs while watching HD sports -- just curious if this set suffers from the same thing.

Thanks again!
