philips projection flyback question Can't Post

I have a philips 53pW9383 53 inch projection tv that I was attempting to repair by installing new convergence IC's and have made a new problem by pulling out one of the leads that go into the flyback transformer. Can the lead be pushed back in or do I need to replace the transformer. I have pushed it back in but my picture has waves in it or is very dark. The lead had yellow plastic spacer around the top where it went into the transformer and that appears to be broken into three peices. Please let me know if any one can help with this.... Thanks John

Thanks I pushed it back in and turned it and it seemed to stay in, then put a small amount of hot melt on the top to secure it. I powered up and I seemed to back where I was at the begining so now I am going back to the original problem and replacing the convergence IC's, I have heard through this forum that you need to replace the resistors also is this true? I don't want to put the new chips in and have them go bad if there is something else wrong. I am a tech but have really never worked on TV's before, so any advice would be welcome. Thanks again... John

I have a philips model 52UP56 W104 Chassis PTV725 that may have the same issues regarding convergance ICs. What is the exact problem are you having with the TV?

When I began, I had no raster, only sound and glow in the tubes. I replaced the flyback Horz. Output Transistor and .33 Ohm resistor, and now have a raster, but with horrible convergance/ no way to alter the convergance. I used the focus rings on the tubes themselves and have them lined up perfectly on the horizontal. I have huge pincusion problems with the corners, and the picture looks as if the tubes all have the same pincushion problem, and are rotated roughly 10 degrees from each other. (Which is how they are mounted in the chassis.

Do you have the same issue?

Below is a picture of the TV showing the issue. The focus and purity are perfect. The only issue I have is with the convergance.

The problem I have is that the red will not converge, I have tried the multipoint convergence and the red will not adjust, the others adjust fine but the red will not. The screen has a red arch across the bottom and the red seems to flicker, the convergence is a lot worse on the bottom than on the top of the screen. Does this sound like a convergence IC problem or something else? Thanks John

Sounds like you have a similar problem to the problem I have... Though my issue is with all three tubes.

The Customer Convergance and Service Convergance will not work for any colors.. (they never move even using my Harmony remote).

I have a red green and blue arc at the bottom and top of the screen. They seem to be offset only a few degrees from one another.

I suspect Convergance ICs on my unit. Your unit may only have a bad solder joint in the red section on the convergance panel. Check the solder joints, and also see if you have any bad caps. If you do, you should replace the caps and resolder any bad joints to see if that fixes your problem. The fact that only one of your colors will not align would seem to mean that that part of the DigConv circuit is not functioning.

See my picture above and see if your red looks as mine does.

Yes mine does look like yours does but only on the red, I will take the board out tomorrow and check all the solder joints and caps and see if that helps. I'll let you know what I find. Thanks John

Hello, did you ever figure out your problem< I had a repair man look at mine and told me it was the convergence computer. The computer is 500.00 so I decided not to get the TV fixed, I might look around for a used one to see if I can get the TV working again. John

It's always a good idea to check all those resistors, if any of them have changed in value you will loose the new IC's.
