so it looks like i am after the XGA option, i am tryiing to read up on what XGA is but i am having a hard time understanding what it means

is it an option within the computer? or an option within the tv?

right now i just have a DVI to HDMI plug on the back of the computer which connects to the tv.

Connector Type
2 x Composite video/audio input ( RCA phono x 3 ) - Rear , 2 x S-Video input ( 4 pin mini-DIN ) , 2 x HD component input ( RCA phono x 3 ) , 2 x HDMI ( 19 pin HDMI Type A ) , 1 x VGA input ( 15 pin HD D-Sub (HD-15) ) , 1 x Composite video/audio output ( RCA phono ) , Audio line-out ( RCA phono x 2 ) , 1 x Digital audio output (coaxial) ( RCA phono ) , 1 x Audio line-in ( Mini-phone stereo 3.5 mm ) , 1 x Composite video/audio input ( RCA phono x 3 ) - Front , 1 x S-Video input ( 4 pin mini-DIN ) - Front , 1 x Network ( RJ-45 )

Why don't you just connect via VGA input?
If still have difficulty, try changing the refresh rate on computer's video card.

i have no problem hooking the tv up to a vga port on the computer i just had no idea that it would work that way.

i was just hoping to use the hdmi port on the tv for no reason other then it was there. and i had a dvi output on the computer so a 1.99 radio shack conector married the 2 connectors together

should i look for a vga to hdmi connector? or a vga to rca or component? will i need some sort of RF modulator? i dont have a VGA in on the tv

The computer AND TV both have VGA connectors!

According to the specifications for the TV model number you reported you do!

i have the tv out now and im looking at it. and unless it is inside the plastic somewhere its not here on the back. my manual even says i have one (or supposed to ) but all i have is a rj-45 ethernet port.
if its just RGB then there must be a VGA to component cable adapter out there somewhere?

Re: [jts1957] projection tv as computer monitor? via HDMI [In reply to] Can't Post

hahahahahah beleive me i would like to especially after i have spent money on dvi video cards hdmi cables etc etc etc... and now realizing i could have used a 4$ patch cord. but i think my tv is getting old now and i dont know if they even still make these anymore, i have had it for a few years now. so warrenty or trading it back in isnt an option (but going back and punching the kid who sold it to me in the stomach, still is a very viable option)

but a quick search on ebay came up with vga to component cables. and they are around 9$. would you advise me to try this? or do you foresee an inherent problem with this idea?

Re: [scampo77] projection tv as computer monitor? via HDMI [In reply to] Can't Post

i went to buy a vga to component adapter cable today and the guy told me that i can go from component to vga with the cable but not the other way around due to sync. he advised that i didnt buy the cable. do you know if this is true? should i try it anyway?

is it possible to find the "vga in" for my tv and install it myself ?

True.

You have the manual, I looked at CNET spec sheet.
Try looking for hidden panels? You would think if they changed a jack, that they would have made a note in your paperwork somewhere.Crazy
