why do projection tvs suck? Can't Post

Why do they suck compared to I guess smaller CRT tvs? My dad has had a toshiba 36 inch for like 10 years and a sony 20 inch for 16 years and they are fine, but with projection tvs , I mean even the one I have it has color issues, convergence problems, and I hear and read all the time about projection problems, from colors to blurry to whatever. So what is it about projection tvs that makes them have so many common problems versus CRT and I guess other forms?

Best answer,

3 tubes vs 1

If you want a (big picture) Smile projection is the way to go.

I am not impressed with lcd/plasma/dlp technology.

Maintance cost for said above sets is ungodly at best but a projo set

will cost you less in the long run.

That being said tube set's will be a thing of the past come 08

get a good projo set now (invest in the hd converter box or hd built in)

personal recomendation rca/toshiba/hitachi/samsung.

stay away from LG products (LG does not stand for life's good it means

LUCKY GOLDSTAR) if you know anything about electronics goldstar is the suck capitol of electronics.

25 yrs in the field my best recomendation.

best of luck

i agree with vcrdr12. to get a decent picture on a projection the three crt's are driven too hard by designand they are shot before too long , and convergence chips run hot. heat is always trouble. anyway,10 years and 16years is ancient in this trade.most of the repairs we do here in the UK are on stuff less than one year old, so dont feel too bad if your projection set only lasts 3 years
