1000uf 25v Capacitor Can't Post

Hi

This is my first post and please keep in mind I am not an electronics guru.
I have just started fixing my TV and this is my first repair on a TV, the problem with the TV is it powers up the standby light illuminates and that's about it.

Stripped the set down and removed the power board and I have found 4 of the 1000uf 25v capacitors have bulged slightly on the top.

The question is, is this the norm for the capacitors to give the fault I have described and how much does the bulge have to bulge for it to be fubar'd?

Thanks for any help on this one

chrislyons;....

A bulge on the top of an electrolytic cap is ONLY ONE way to tell if they are bad...
ANY visible bulge no matter how slight means the cap IS bad...
I'd change ALL 4 IF I were you...
They're cheap....

GOOD LUCK.....Sly.....

It is not unsual for electrolytic caps to fail but four at the same time????????????? There may be something else wrong causing this condition which should be corrected before replacing the caps.

mel;....

Come on now !!!!
Haven't you opened up enough LED/LCD TVs to see at least 2 or 3 caps swollen ????
Granted 4 is a bit much , but , who's to say it doesn't happen ...
And they may not have all gone at the SAME time...
Could have been a slooow onesey , twosey type of failure till it gave up the ghost....

In my past , I worked on a LOT of Mitsubishi Big Screen TVs that had a lot more than 4 caps go bad...
And NO they did NOT all go at once....

He probably does have OTHER faults besides the caps....

SORRY to antagonize you , but , facts is facts....

Thanks for your replies, went out and bought the parts today and hey presto the set is working.

It may of needed 4 as it is one of the TV/DVD combined and the DVD player packed up mths ago, but now all working.

Thanks for all your help on this one, and to think I got quoted £80 for the repair and it cost £3.00 and 1hrs work

Thanks again
