5, 7 & 9 blinking Panny lights: repair or replace? Can't Post

Hi All,

We have a 4 1/2 year old Panasonic Plasma TH-42PWD6 suffering from the Evil Red Blinking Light Syndrome. If I turn the set off twice, allowing for a 10 second pause, the picture returns. Primarily happens about 5 minutes into viewing a video tape (on any VCR) -- that's usually 7 blinks, but sometimes 9. Occasionally happens when just watching cable or turning peripheral controls off -- that's reliably 5 blinking lights.

Was trying to get some idea of repair cost, ie, what do the boards costs, etc, but local dealer won't say unless we give him $90 for a service call, then they'll give us an estimate. Okay, I can see why they don't want to give away their service or advice for free. But OTOH, it'd be nice not to throw away $90 on a tv set that we end up replacing if repair costs approach replacement costs.

I searched the Panny blinking light threads, but couldn't find any feedback from folks who posted on what it cost them for repairs. I was wondering if anyone here had an idea -- ie the cost of the boards, anything.

Or, is it even advisable to repair a 4 1/2 year old set? We probably watch it about 3 - 4 hours a day w/a fair amount of video tape viewing.

Thanks.
