Affinity SLE2039 LED TV has no blacklighting Can't Post

I have performed the flashlight test and confirmed the TV has no backlighting. I opened up the TV but I don't see an inverter board, the cable that goes to the LEDs plugs directly into the power board. I checked voltage on the 6 wires going to the LEDs and there is 20v/40v/60v between various wires. Does this mean the LED array is bad? There are 3 LED strips and none of them ever light up. The 6 wires going to the LEDs have a red/black/red/black/red/black pattern.

So you CAN see images using 'the flashlight test?' Not to mention hear sound.

LEDs = NO flash at ANY point? Try disconnecting power cable from PS board to Main board and see if LEDs come on.

Yes, I can see images with the flashlight test.

I have not seen the LEDs flash at any point since the screen initially went dark. It wasn't a gradual thing where they got dimmer over time, it went dark suddenly one day.

I disconnected the cable going from PS board to main board and did not see LEDs come on. In the picture of the PS board, it is the cable on the top left.

Try unplugging CN2 on PS board.

I know it will require you to hook up an active source, but when you can discern video images with your flashlight, is there sound present?

The "CN2" on the PS board has two wires that go to the "CN2 Inverter" plug on the main board. Does that mean the inverter is built into the main board on this model?

I hooked up my PS3 to the TV and could hear sound from it. I also used the flashlight and could see images at the same time.

I unplugged CN2 after that and turned TV on and off and didn't see any LEDs come on.

NO 'Inverters' used. More of a hold-over term. Just like they advertise TV as LED TV. Is actually a LED backlit TFT-LCD TV. Just another DC voltage that gets turned on & off.
Wealth of info on back sides of boards, which is all I get to go with as a service manual for Affinity/Orion/Meijer eludes me.

Ah. Yeah, I wasn't sure what was being inverted. My understanding of an inverter is when going from DC->AC. The LEDs are DC, the boards are DC, so it makes sense that an inverter is not needed. I'm assuming the older style TVs that used CCFLs needed inverters to run AC to the backlights. Don't those CCFL bulbs run on AC?

I'll check out the back side of those boards and get a picture of them to post.

Don't bother, unless yours shows something that SJ doesn't. http://www.shopjimmy.com/affinity/sle2039

Re: [jts1957] Affinity SLE2039 LED TV has no blacklighting [In reply to] Can't Post

Right now, I'm suspecting the LEDs strips themselves are the most likely failure point, however I've read online that LEDs will dim over time before failing. This didn't happen in my case, backlighting failed suddenly and has never returned.

I haven't found anywhere to buy replacement LEDs strips for this model online. There are a few used boards on eBay though. I don't think there were very many made of this model, so replacement parts are scarce.

Will checking to see if there's voltage on the CN2 wires be helpful in any way? If it's just another DC voltage that gets turned on when needed for the backlighting, then that's the only thing I can think of to troubleshoot further.

You may have more numbers to research after gaining access to inside of panel.

Finally got around to opening up the panel again. There are three different boards with 10 LEDs each. I don't imagine all three would go bad at once. If one goes bad, does it make all of them not turn on? If not, then it may be the power board after all.

I think you will find each strip's LEDs are wired in series. Each strip may then be connected in series with one another or 3 strips of 10 in parallel with the PS.

Panel assembly number?

The LEDs on each strip are in series. The 3 strips of 10 seem to be in parallel with the PS.

Forgive me, but how do I find the panel assembly number?

Series xmas tree bulbs of ye olde days were series wired - one burnt out, they all went out.

May be barcode tag near top or maybe under a board?

I'm not surprised. It's a pretty obscure brand. The closest models are under the Westinghouse name.

Can't seem to troubleshoot it any further. Guess I'll just junk it. Thanks for your effort on trying to get to the bottom of it, even though it was a dead end.<br>

Each individual LED should check like a diode with meter.
Each LED should light using about 3 VDC 40mA supply. Use a 100 ohm resistor to limit current and observe polarity.
