Sound as if the degause curcuit might have failed. this curcuit energizes a coil around the back of the picture tube to demagnatise it just before the picture shows up. Try turning the set on and off several times sometimes this works if not runn it down to the local repair shop and see if they will degause the set. many shops do this free of charge, and if that dont work then the shadow mask in the crt it self is defective , that meens it time to change the picture tube
