Buzzing Voltage Regulator Can't Post

Re: Sanyo DS27580 w/Chassis 27580-00. We have owned this set for a long time and it has been extremely good to us providing a great picture and sound. Over time, it developed a problem; i.e. The screen would flicker and sometimes it would go to a colored line across the center of the screen. Most of the time, it would correct itself and I would go on to watching my sports. Other times, I would simply tap the back of the TV where the sockets are for the playing games and it would go on. The latest problem developed when I moved it to another room, I plugged it in and was watching it for about 5 minutes and the it started buzzing. I had a picture and sound that but the screen was showing "noise", I tried tapping to no avail. I decided to take the back off and pulled far enough to where I could see and hear inside and plugged it in. I could hear the buzzing and got a piece of water hose and heard it coming loud and clear from the voltage regulator. Now, I am wondering if it is the voltage regulator or is something else making it buzz. Because the picture is so good, I don't just want to throw this away. I appreciate any input. Thank You.

Re: [VanBuren] Buzzing Voltage Regulator [In reply to] Can't Post

VanBuren;....

I can not find a "free" service manual for Sanyo DS27580 OR Chassis 27580-00....
I did manage to find one close(?) , SANYO DS27530....

The "voltage regulator" that I found does NOT "show "noise" on the screen.....
So , must be something else...
I have a suspicion as to what it may be...
Can you take & post a pix of the complete chassis & one of the "voltage regulator" ???

Thanks....

I'm working on that at the pics of the chassis. Got to take the thing apart so I can get a good shot after which I will plug it back in and take the pic of the noiose.

VanBuren;.....

PLEASE take a pix of the "noise" BEFORE you take it apart !!!!
You MAY have something arcing inside & it could correct itself (albeit temporarily) & may be hard to get to act up when we want it to...

Also;...

Quote
sometimes it would go to a colored line across the center of the screen.

This most likely is due to bad pc connections at the vertical output IC & will need to be resoldered...
IF allowed to continue , you will blow the IC & other parts...

How much electronic/TV repair background experience do you have ????

VanBuren;....

We'll try to help you as best we can considering you have no TV experience....
Do you have any electronic experience ???..
Below is a link (Provided by jts1957) of one of my past posts explaining how to post pix here...
It IS lengthy , but that is because it IS detailed step by step...
It IS easy once you get used to doing it...
When you are done pasting your pix in the reply box , PLEASE use the "Preview Post" button below the reply box to see how they will look in the thread...
IF they are excessively wide go back & adjust their size...
NONE of us here have IMAX monitors...
Wide pix screw up the thread & it tends to piss of certain techs here......
THANKS....Wink..

Thanks Ron. I am not completely ignorant of electronics. I am a retired Purchasing Agent and have had a few years of buying electronic components; Resistors, Capacitors, ICa, wire, connectors. So when you speak of "values", I know what you mean and I understand schematics. So I'll give it my best shot and I am not too old to learn. I will now look at the link for posting pics. Thanks.

I thought all was ready for a paste and when I hit preview, I got nothing. So, next I hit paste anyhow and you can see the imageshack address.https://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/713x535q90/631/epPvTq.jpg
There are a couple of things in the ImageShack instructions that I do not see. Do I need to post in a new thread?

VanBuren;....

Thanks for the GREAT pix...
However , what I really would like to see is the "noise" !!!
Also would like the number on the component on the heatsink...

I'm guessing this is where the "buzzing" is coming from...
Correct ???..

Re: [VanBuren] Buzzing Voltage Regulator [In reply to] Can't Post

When you refer to heat sinks, I think of extruded aluminum shapes of fins that dissipate the heat. There are no heat sinks like that on this board. The heat sinks on this board appear to be thick aluminum plate and there are two of those., Each one has a device mounted on it with a screw and what looks like a Glyptol like material applied all around each. One of them has a number D1879 and under that number is as a number 8F1. The other device carries a number STP30130 and under that number is another number 8811. The STP 30130 is where the buzzing is coming from.

Photo of FOIL side of pins of IC501? (LA7838 hopefully). Also yoke plug joints?

Numbers on white sticker by rear jack pack?

IF IC number is correct and solder joints look good, it could be caused by one or more of these electrolytics: C501; C503; C504; C506 or C507* (*odds on favorite).

Is there any chassis or other number that has not already been mentioned? Serial number I don't need.

The only schematics I can find for YOUR set are NOT free and 'I' don't pay for service literature. No item I mention is 100% guaranteed to be the actual bad part. They are only likely suspects.
Bear in mind that I am using a schematic that is NOT for your EXACT model. It does use the IC and transistor you mentioned, and from other items I can see in your pictures, I believe I have a reasonably similar electrical match. However, the physical positioning of many items leaves a bit to be desired. I am assuming if I mention a item's part number, location number, etc, and it doesn't match what you have in front of you that you would be bringing it to my attention.

Now as to where C507 is located, I CAN only tell you the points it connects to. It should be a 220ufd probably 25 to 50 volt electrolytic. The positive lead should connect to IC501 pin #13; the negative lead should connect to pin #9. FTF (Follow The Foil).
