Sounds like a degaussing problem. There is automatic degaussing (demagnetizing) of the pix tube assy each time the set is turned on. If the automatic circuit fails, the set will not degauss. This circuit can fail because of the failure of the thermistor (posisister), the connections of the device to the board, the degaussing coil itself, or the degaussing relay. The solution is take it to a TV shop where they will fix the cct and manually degauss it. One test to see if it is the degaussing cct, is to take a small magnet and put it close to the corner of the pix tube so as to cause a bit of screen impurity. Turn the set on, and if it doesn't disappear, the automatic degaussing cct is not working. Sometime you have to switch the set off and on a number of times. If you do this, wait a least 15 minutes to let the thermistor cool down. Alan
