DVD works but cable/vcr does not

My mitsubishi projection tv went on the blink today. The cable picture went out but I could still hear sound. I hooked up a small tv to the cable line and it worked fine. My DVD player works fine (through s-video port). So I am wondering if the tv (which is about 8 years old) has some sort of cable tuner in it. Basically, nothing going through the coaxial port works. The picture did come back later, but it looked like crap, real bright and not very clear, but then it went back out. Any suggestions? If so, is it worth a repair?
