Hitachi LCD TV - Weird Darker Contrast Issue

Hi. I have a Hitachi L42A403 LCD TV that started having a weird picture.
Here are two pictures. One is from the TV and the other is from my computer monitor to show the difference.:

When the picture is bright you can't really tell any difference, but when it is darker the contrast of the darker areas is messed up and it won't show that area well. It's like the darker areas have no contrast. I've tried resetting the TV and adjusting all of the different settings.
The TV hasn't been moved or anything so the only thing I can think is maybe lightning?
Is this something that is easily fixable or should I buy a new TV?
Any help would be great.
