hmm, I'm not a tech, but I do have a voltmeter, so I could check the voltage on the IC; if I find that the voltages are off, do you think that this is a replaceable part (ie, could I find one)? The caps I would just replace.

Love your griffs jts- makes me laugh usually- gosh it's hard being an irascible old bassid who can't stand dumb iggerant posters who haven't a clue(a 2 year old child would know more than the so,called engineer!)- despite being told prob straight off- still can't digest it!.
