How to Repair Damaged Ribbon Cable? Can't Post

Hi. I have a Vizio M420NV TV. The remote didn't work. When I opened the TV, I found the ribbon cable leading into the IR sensor was unattached. It had broken off very near the end somehow. Replacement cables are very expensive. So how to repair the snapped cable? I tried sanding down the ribbon to expose the six strips it contained. Didn't fix problem.

(Here's photo. On left is sanded ribbon end. On right is good end going into circuit board.

https://photos.google.com/photo/AF1QipNWblRSAaJ-jhoBasv-odjuHY401dRf3ZjYzY_c )

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Tony
You aren't much for specifics (pitch & length). 67 cents each.
Here's enough to do your project ten times (or enough for you and nine friends or you can resell?)

Thanks for the suggestion. I need AWM 20861 6-pin, about 500 mm. I can't find any new for sale. (Somebody wants $50 for a used cable and sensor--too much!) Splicing two or more shorter pieces together seems as difficult as repairing the piece I have.

Are you sure it has to be nearly 20 inches in length?

I definitely need something over 300mm. Here's what the original looks like:

Well then does original have an inch or more of slack? And do you still have the blue backing plastic?

Yes, the original cable can be re-routed to create about 4 inches of slack.

Well then glue the blue plastic onto rear of remaining stripped wire. Line up the blue plastic to where all six conductors are bare. About the distance that the tip (white part) of your fingernail would cover (I would presume more than a sixteenth - less than an eighth of an inch.) Let glue dry. Carefully trim off the protruding end with sharp scissors. Should be good to go.

Be careful glue is safe for plastic. Also that you should not get any glue on traces.

I assume you've checked all 6 traces for continuity?

Thanks! I'll try it (soon as I find the blue plastic). Any problem using Elmer's glue?

What do you mean by checking traces for continuity? Running a charge through? I'm not sure how I would do that. I have no equipment or instruments.

A rubber cement or contact cement (or even very thin 2-sided tape - like they use for mounting storm window plastic film).
A continuity tester or cheap DVM should be available at your local big box hardware-type store.
