JVC distorted picture (click image) low resolution, blurred... NEED HELP, PLEASE! Can't Post

As you can see in the picture, the resolution is poor. This is a 3-year old JVC av-48wp74 48" projector TV. The picture showed perfectly without any problems whatsoever the first 3 months, then we started seeing the picture jump to this state shown below for a quick second, then back to normal. Three years later, it's in this distorted, low resolution mode all of the time. My husband & I just purchased a service manual for this model TV & has gone through pretty much every adjustment listed & still nothing. The picture shows like this all of the time with DVD, VHS, broadcast signal, or cable. We've seen several samples of distorted projection TV images, but not one comes close to our problem. Can anyone help us, please?

Wanda

this picture looks solarized. Is this an lcd projection tv? If so I would guess the lcd engine is causing the problem.I dont recognise the model number. Not European I think

First of all, thanks for your reply. Is a solarized picture a major problem or something we can correct? I've never seen anyone else with this problem. It's not an lcd projection screen. It has the three picture tubes with a mirror. We have the back off the unit right now & have no idea where to start to correct this issue. Thank you, TechChris.

if the fault was intermittent it may be a bad solder joint somewhere probably in the video processor . you could try prodding around with an INSULATED plastic stick to see if it can be made to come and go .also you could check to make sure no oil has leaked from one of the crt's onto the circuit boards. If you have a multimeter check the screen volts going to the crt's.Does the picture look the correct size?

The picture shows normal size. My husband is checking on everything that you've suggested. We really appreciate this help!

I checked for loose wires, and did not find any, however during the self check it reports AOI 6 NG and YC 2 NG there are 2 settings that are quite different from the factory settings in the YC settings, but the service manual says do not adjust. Please advise.
Thanks,
Joe

YC2 no good suggests a problem in the chroma or luminance stage. the video processing is all done in the same module, normally one stuck upright on the main pcb, possibly in a screening can.it sounds like you may need a professional tech to look at this in your house, i will look up a01 6 if i can find a service manual.

Miraculously, as the family arrived yesterday afternoon, the colors came back, the picture shows great now after several hours of warming up or touching something on the video processor with the plastic stick that you suggested. We turned the set off, then immediately back on, the color went back to that solar appearance, but for only 20 minutes this time. We cannot turn it off without losing the good picture so it will remain on. For now, my husband considers himself that "GOOD TECH" husband that any woman would love to have. Ha ha ha!!! If there's just something lose or if just needs to be warmed up, seems like we can save some money here. We still have work to do, but it'll have to wait til after the holiday. Thank you so much, TechChris, for your advice!!! Without you, we wouldn't have our screen tv this weekend to view!!! Highly appreciate!!!!

If you cant induce the fault to appear by prodding or tapping then it maybe temperature related. so invest in an aerosol tin of electronics freezer spray and see if you can get the fault to appear by chilling components one at a time. its a long job but generally successful with patience.
